Simple Photoshop / Clipboard Question

This pertains to saving a screenshot to clipboard.

When I save a SCREENSHOT to clipboard by default it saves as a clp file which cannot be opened by photoshop. If i save the file as either BMP,GIF OR JPG when i try to open with photoshop is says inavalid format..
How do i save a screenshot and open it with photoshop?

Thanks.

if you're using ctrl + prt scrn buttons then you can just open up photoshop, create a new file and hit ctrl + v and it pastes right onto the canvas.
