do you worry about how much you drink or use drugs?

Ask yourself the following questions:

1. Am I concerned about how much I drink
2. If I am low on money, will I buy alcohol before anything else
3. Does drinking change my personality
4. Do I vow to quit drinking often
5. Do I always make sure I have alcohol in the house
6. Do other people say I need to quit drinking
7. Have I ever tried to quit drinking
8. Have there been times when I've forgotten what's happened when drinking (blackouts)
9. Is anyone in my immediate family an alcoholic

If the answer is yes to more than half of these questions, I'd say you need to take a good look at what's happening to you.

I am a recovered alcoholic. I've been clean for 10 yrs now. I say recovered because alcoholism is something that never goes away. It can be arrested but never cured.

I also got into drugs during this time, and since I was about 13 I've been high on one thing or another. I didn't know what it was like to be totaly clean for 30 yrs of my life.. now that I am, I've found that I experience natural highs often. I never knew what this felt like when I was using. No more depression, no more hangovers, I can't tell you how much better I feel now. I was a slave to my own addiction, but now .. I'm free

The only time I worry about it is when my stash is getting low.

You can do whatever you want in moderation and if it doesn't affect your work or life then I don't really see a problem in it. I drink about a 12 pack of beer a night and smoke bud but it doesn't effect my work or life so I don't look at is as a problem.

Stash getting low.. wow.. that brings back memories.. I think that was about the worst times for me.. sitting by the phone.. going out to bars looking for someone who had something.. it was like holding my breath .. everything stopped except for the searching.. I gotta say.. that was one of the worst things about using.. the dry times

It's the weirdest thing, but lately I wake up with a terrible headache every day, and the only thing that seems to help is alcohol

I've been 100% smoke free for over 3 weeks now after 2 decades of cigarettes and pot smoking. I stopped cigarettes about 2 years ago and substituted with pot smoke. I also stopped drinking whiskey recently and just have some beers once in a while. Last night I had 3.

It's a good feeling to be clean and I feel much healthier, but I have a long way to go still to recover my body after decades of abuse.

Nowadays I feel 'high' just from being sober, I know this sounds weird for someone still getting 'high' the chemical way but believe me, I know the difference. Hopefully I will turn into a health-junkie so I can tease the ladies

I had a friend who I chose to leave behind because of her 'dry times' behavior. I couldn't take being around her when she got like that, nothing mattered but the search for more weed, and she was a raging bitch until she found some. I got tired of it. talking to her about it didn't help in the least, maybe because she just didn't see her behavior as abnormal. everyone else did though

so that would make any of the opiates not drugs either if understand what you're saying.. for example.. cocaine, opium, heroin, and codeine

also, tell me how these not being drugs has anything to do with the topic of being worried about using?

I have a daughter close to your age uvort, she's 17, and about 3 weeks ago she told me she's been experimenting with pot.. My first instinct was to ground her and never let her go out of the house again... but instead, I sat her down and talked with her about it. I told her what happened to me, and that she was high risk, and that nothing I could do would make her stop because her life was her own. I'm sitting here crying while I'm typing this because it just tore me up .. my beautiful little girl using drugs.. it's almost too much to take knowing she's about to start on the same path I just finished. I haven't given up though.. I've convinced her to stop hanging around with the people who do drugs.. and she's told me she's not doing them anymore.. but that remains to be seen.. if she's anything like her mother, she has a long road ahead of her, and it breaks my heart

Do everything in moderation (if possible) and you'll be fine. I was smoking 2+ packs of cigs a day at the height of my addiction, went 24/7 weed smoking for years and the last time I drank whiskey I put away 3/4 of a fifth and wasn't even too buzzed, that's when I realized something was way wrong..

Great news!

That would have been a good question to put on that list.. "when you drink do you find it takes a large amount of alcohol to make you high"
That's one of the things that happens to alcoholics.. another interesting thing is.. say a person quits for 2 years.. then goes back to drinking.. the disease of alcoholism progresses throughout that 2 yrs just as if the person never quit

Drinking a 12 pack of beer a day doesn't affect your work or life? I find this hard to believe. Unless of course, you have ran off every decent person around you by doing this years ago and therefore can't ruin what isn't there already? I can not imagine any scenario where a 12 pack a day is not affecting someone's life...
