Frustrated Disney shareholders spoke with a loud voice, and the company responded by stripping CEO Michael Eisner of his chairman?s title ? a move unlikely to quell the grumbles among many of the 43 percent who voted to withhold their support for Eisner.

Disney?s board met late Wednesday and voted unanimously to sever the roles of chairman and chief executive, naming director George Mitchell as nonexecutive chairman.

Eisner defended his management team: ?The criticisms you have just heard are fundamentally wrong,? he said to applause. ?I believe you have just heard rhetoric from our critics that frankly replaces reason. It?s a disservice to cast members as well as shareholders.?

So close to home yet they are voteing FAR away from disney to avoid conflict.

Disney is far from being out of the woods yet with the shareholder dissatisfaction. Mitchell was also give a no confidence vote and I believe it was 20 something percent. DIS shares trade at nearly the same amount as they did when Eisner started and they have been beaten on share appreciation by many media companies in that time span. Combine that with the loss of the Pixar contract and ESPN recently announcing a slowdown of price increases and I think the pot is really being stirred for some unhappy shareholders.

I think Comcast can save that company..... but they gotta do something with this Eisner guy. He's run Disney into the ground.

The real problem comcast might face is that if the Disney board manages to replace Eisner and the replacement is well received, then Disney shares will go up and that will make this buyout alot more difficult.
