WTF - DVDs that Destroy Themselves in Exactly 48hrs???
I just went to the store to pick up some beer and cigs and they had an entire movie rack with self destructing DVDs! For the folks in the U.S., they can be found at 7-11 stores. The rack had all the new releases for $6.99 and it was advertised on the case that, "Once you break the vacuum sealed container, the disc will become invalid after exactly 48 hours. You don't have to return it, just watch it and then throw it away!" - I'm thinking Inspector Gadget and shit.
WTF, Have I been hiding under a rock because I've never heard anything about them! This could be a good market for the adult industry.

I give it a week before someone creates either:
A. watch the movie on the computer and burn it to another dvd that will not wear out in 48 hours. or B. some sort of spray that will not allow the dvd to destroy after 48 hours. |

It's fairly simple.
The surface layer on the disc reacts with the Oxygen in the air making the disc unreadable after a short while. |

seriously an idiot idea imho.
This costs more than a regular dvd to produce, so why not just reduce the prices of regalar dvd's? people will by more and will not go thru the hassle of loaning stuff, downloading it, burning it etc... just my ![]() |

it's like food. It gets bad when you don't consume it soon enough. Probably on those discs are chemicals which resolve or react with air after some time. Good idea but by throwing it away you produce more waste though...
