This is why I've banned Nestle products!!

Do not read this if you're not interested in crimes against humanity.....

Nestle Co. is a terrible company!!

In Africa, they hire women to wear fake nursing uniforms and to visit women who have just given birth in clinics.

They hand out samples of baby formula and show the women how to make the formula by adding water. They explain that the formula is better than breast milk because it is enriched with vitamins and other crap that the mother with her own poor diet cannot provide in her own milk.

They send the women back to their villages with a canister or two of the powdered formula. Since the formula is so expensive, the women use about a 1/4 of the powder than the recomended serving to make it last as long as possible.

The babies start to starve with the watered down version and become emaciated and very sick. By the time the mother realizes this and tries to feed the baby with her breast milk, it usually has dried up.

Nestle knows of the studies and reports on this but refuses to do anything about it. In fact, they send them home with enough formula that if used correctly, in the right powder to water ratio, will last about as long as it takes for the average breast to stop lactating.

This forces the women to buy more (if they can afford it) or to water it down and slowly kill their babies.

Sorry for the long post, but I just had to get this off my chest since it has been bothering me for a while.

Ok so I agree that ethically that is wrong..
but there may be some truth to the fact that if it's a place where women are malnourished anyway - wouldnt their breat milk be just as unhealthy for the babies as the watered down formula?

like I said, i dont agree with what they are doing
but it sounds liek a catch 22 all round to me

My best friend seved in the peace corps for 6 years. She is back in the states now and training to be a midwife and lactation consultant. When she finishes, she is going back to Africa to serve in the Corps again. She showed me the literature. I will ask her to loan it to me again so I can scan it and post it.

I will send you (LadyM) a private message when I get it up.

If you search the net, there are a few sites out there with the information. Here is one I just found:

I didn't kown that.

Now that I do I will never buy another Nestle product again.

It's one thing to bullshit an adult(he/she can think and decide for him/herself) but to make a profit over children's backs is just wrong.

Thank you for this info it is always good to know what companies to avoid in any way you can.

Even with a poor diet, the immune system filters out a lot of crap. As long as she's not drinking alcohol or using drugs.

In the first few days after delivery of a baby, the colostrum in the mothers milk has elements that kick start the baby's own immune system. The water they use (for the formula) is usually unfiltered and a home to water borne organisms and parasites that ravish a body's endocrine and immune system.

They baby has a better chance, even if it's a small one, with the breast milk

Try soy. Acid reflux you mean puking? Otherwise how would you know if the baby had heartburn?

They aren't irresponsible, just misinformed with a limited or no access to helpful information.

The information being said is too slanted. I would like the info from both sides and not just the tinfoil brigade.

Im no business expert, but how can nestle even make a profit if these women cant afford to buy the formula.

I had a problem as a baby myself. My mom gave me organic goats milk. Has your pediatrician said anything about this?
I was a baby 27 years ago, so I don't know what they've found out about it now, but it was just a thought.

I think that we all have a responsibility to send a message to companies with unethical business practices; and not support them.

I was a baby 27 years ago, so I don't know what they've found out about it now, but it was just a thought.
they said to give her some additive that stops the reflux and just keep switching till we found one that didnt make her sick
neslte is the only one

which is ironic coz it's the real cheap one -
normally as parents we buy our daughter all the most expensive stuff coz you'd believe its better quality - but that's not always the way it is.

She's old enough to go onto regular cow milk - she has no problem with it.. but she still likes forumla .. just gotta get her off it .. liek anythign with kids it takes a couple of weeks

BTW - while you are boycotting products BIC (pens. lighters etc,) and Gillette test on animals .. Ive boycotted both them

It's called 'good will'.

They earn brownie points by showing concern.
Wouldn't you rather do business with a company that looks out for the well being of others?

I'm sure Nestle would have sued for slander if it weren't true.
They took money and conducted their own investigation in an attempt to prove everyone else wrong, but now refuse to publish their reports and findings. I wonder why?
