Girl who raised $700,000 for cancer research dies

she was only 8

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A young cancer patient who started a lemonade stand to raise money for cancer research, sparking a nationwide fund-raising campaign that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, has died at her home. She was 8.

Alexandra Scott, of Wynnewood, whose battle with pediatric cancer captured hearts nationwide, "passed on peacefully with us holding her hands," her parents, Jay and Liz Scott, said in an e-mail, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Monday.

Very sad indeed.
Nothing breaks my heart more than sick kids...

It's so unfair when these children are dealt such bad cards.
This really depresses me.

It should also be a lesson to those who are very selfish and caught up with trivial bullshit that life is beautiful- and also very short

carpe diem.

unfortunately you mean, the medical and medication companies just rubbed their hands together.

they will sell more bullshit cancer pills.

i have watched and been part of a few cancer deaths, even one this year. cancer exists only because the doctors allow it to. too many pills to sell, too much chemo fees to profit off while people wither and die from a treatment that itself is killing them.

until people revolt against the medical system in this country, nothing will happen.

700k is NOTHING to what these bastards are MAKING OFF EVERY DEATH.

The War In Iraq Cost the United States as of Aug. 2 is $125,768,000,000

Instead, we could have insured
53,908,608
children for one year.

based on US stats

its really a sad loss to the family after reading even a portion on that Diary. hard for me to finish....

sometimes you can help but blame the government in spending millions of dollars everyday in the war in Iraq instead of giving to a worth cause. the story of this brave girl shows it all

Damn...that made me cry. I have one that age and I just couldn't imagine losing her...the pain of not having her here...I dunno whether I could handle it.

The little girl was special, wise beyond her years...and did more in her young life for mankind than most do in a lifetime. What a legacy to leave behind...we could all learn from her.

This kind of shit really pisses me off.. There is no reason in hell this country shouldn't have a national health care plan. We pay enough damn taxes, I think the only reason we don't have a national plan is because big business Inurance companies and their lobbiests pay to stop it.

my girls grandmother was at well over 3k a day just for hospital, at one of the best hospitals in this country.

Just as births are expensive so are horrible slow deaths like cancer.

this is a main reason I want to become a California care giver/provider...

i wont go into this cancer shit anymore though.

people always feel differently when they have lost people to it.

Naturally I'm sorry to hear about your losses.

Nevertheless, you're still an idiot in this regard. Conclusions like yours are born from a heavily frustrated and otherwise emotionally influenced mind (which I can understand). Just be reasonable and don't draw conclusions in such a state of mind.

Furthermore, 'cancer exists only because the doctors allow it to'? You're making me laugh - I have to say it's a bitter laugh though.

Yes, maybe your healthcare system isn't optimal. Yet there is no reason whatsoever to assume 'doctors let cancer exist'. Come on.

Is there any other explanation, ok, i admit i am a bit bitter regarding this. But watch your grandmother die slow from something she did not deserve or asdk for and who are you to blame? The government? gimme a break, i dont blame the gov for everything.

I believe in the inginuity and creation of our scientists, why is there no cure?

Why can Magic Johnson live for decades with HIV, yet grandma catches cancer, and lives her last 5 year losing heair, vomiting all day and generally not being able to eat due to chemo.

YOU EVER looked into the eyes of an old woman on chemo?

and they wonder why we fight to get marijuana medical here, these people dont eat the last 3 months of their life because the chemo is killing them.

ive watched it, and i always say, until you have , either offer explanations or suggestions but dont simply knock what some of have witnessed first hand.

death is never easy to watch.

any suggestions on why it is still around?

heres something else people that are not directly effected by the us medical sysytem fail to see, they are right now and recetly trying to make it so certain things, wedding rings, burial plots etc are not considered assets to seniors because guess what...before grandma can get her medicine or aid, if she owns a wedding ring, she better sell it, she will be denied any assistance unless she sells her property.

people dont care about this shit until it hits THEIR FAMILY.

see your grandma selling her rings to pay for radiation treatment then come talk to me about the medicine in this country.

we are killing people slow for profit and gain, its as simple as that.

births are expensive and its even more costly to die.

imagine being told you gotta sell your burial plot if you want assistance because its considered property, and MANY HAVE DONE THIS!!!

they die and dont even have a burial plot, talk about selling someone healthcare.

and THIS is how it is in California.

too funny.

still no opinion, just a point "you are wrong"

bklah blah blah
my opinion is simple and I thought it had become clear along the lines: what you're saying is utter nonsense. Doctors are doing their best to cure.

then why is Bush trying to make it right now so cancer patients cant get medicine through doctors, they have to go through hospital for cancer drugs.

doctors pay for wholesale price, and bill the government. Bush is changing this so you HAVE to go through hospital paying FULL PRICE.

how is what I said wrong?

I don't live in the US and I'm not sure about these regulations and its arguments, so I won't argue over it. Yet I still see no arguments about doctors mistreating...

No it does not. Your medical system may be a little different from mine, but this doesn't mean doctors are mistreating. My education is run for an important part from american sources, so I know how it's done over there.
