OK WTF I think GoDaddy has the new ICAAN procedures backwards >>>

You have received this message because you are listed as the Registered Name Holder or Administrative contact for this domain name in the WHOIS database. Please read the following important information about transferring your domain name:

blah blah blah

Then it says this >

IMPORTANT: If you do not respond, the domain names listed above will
not be transferred to us.

You will be asked to provide the following codes in order to process this domain transfer. Please copy and paste them into the corresponding fields when asked:

more blah blah blah

then this again >

If you DO NOT WANT the transfer to proceed, then please don't respond to this message.

Thats not what the new rules are supposed to do is it? Or am I missing something here.

Shouldn't it say if you don't respond the transfer will proceed??

most people have no idea what icann is or what these new rules are.

before, the scam was that the registrar wont release the domain so u can transfer. now the scam is that the new registrar will steal the domains by lying to the domain owner.

icann has accomplished nothing.

I predict this system is going to last for a week at most and then get shuttled.

I don't think they have a clue about the amount of legal headaches they are going to deal with because of this unthought out procedural change.

I think they mean if you don't NOT respond then we will not NOT be able to transfer your name.

Or I could not NOT be wrong.

It is logic not to respond to this email if they say so. Anyways you should forward this to your registration company support or call them to insure you do right.

well something isn't worded right either way.

Plus they sent it to a blind mailbox and not the correct one for the admin on the domain they were attempting to steal.

So it looks like someone is just mass attempting to steal domains using all sorts of probable addresses.

Have they ( the new rules ) gone into effect yet. ??

Most registrars were already using this new system.

I think the rules have basically changed like this..

Previously , if your doman was UNLOCKED you had to approve the transfer by replying to the auto email.

Now if your doman is UNLOCKED you must respond within 5 days to keep it from being transferred.

The rules on LOCKED domains stay the same, the domain will not be transferred at all if your domain is locked.

My understanding is that if you DO NOT respond, your domain WILL NOT be transferred. The new rule is that YOUR registrar does not have to approve moves for unlocked domains, but you still have to with the NEW registrar. If you do not, it will not be moved.

Is the domain in question locked? If so, the notice seems correct.

Thats it... finally someone that understands..

The _NEW_ registrar has to verify the owner and get him to approve it. if they can not, the transfer can not take place.

The mail KRL pasted looks like a mail by godaddy for a move _TO_ them and not AWAY from them, is that correct?

So in fact almost nothing changed.

Look's like there's no higher risk involved now.

I got the same email - wrote to godaddy and asked them if they can tell me who requested it - and told them under no circumstances do i want to transfer the domain.
I also wrote to the registrar and asked for a 'lock' on the domain name

It still scares you when you get an email like that

pricks

it's not just godaddy, seems like most of the others are the same witha few exceptions.

I am now getting transfer requests for all of my valuable 1 word .com's trying to be transfered TO godaddy.com, none of them are in Godaddy.com and when I asked godaddy support who initialized the transfers they said this:

Quote:
Thank you for your email. I apologize, but we cannot give you the name of the person who requested the transfer. You should lock your domain at your current registrar to prevent this from occurring again.
what a bunch of fucktards , how are they still in business? I mean I get my domains at $6.75 with Fabulous, and they are sooo much better.

Lens is right...

the only point of the new rule is that your current registrar can't hold your domains hostage by not responding to transfer requests.

If someone else submits a transfer request for YOUR domain you still have to confirm it!

no, it's if you don't respond, it is transferred out and "auto accepted" after 5 days if your domains aren't "locked" at your current registrar.

Yeah right cowboy, you just want to keep all the good names to yourself

I say run and block your domains now if you use Godaddy.

I just got off the phone with my account manager. Apparently someone is using GoDaddy to try and get a lot of the valuable domains on the Net.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the registrars were doing it themselves since many of them registar 1000's of their own names a year using their own scripts, overture, etc.. you know the story KRL, wouldn't put it past Godaddy.
