If you want something QUIET, try LongIsland, although not 5 star.

How about Exuma? Tiny island, very few people, even fewer tourists, quiet, hot, beautiful beaches... I think there's only one weekly flight to and from Nassau though.

Make sure you leave the resort Island to go get food.

The food at the resort is not only expensive, but its shitty beyond anything.

100.00 each for a meal, and its horrible..

Go get some real good food off the island. Take a cab, or even walk across the bridge..

You can thank me later.

Eleuthera... Surfer's Haven.

Neal and Rachel are awesome. Scotty B is probably still there. If Scotty is there, you will be hooked up. It is insanely peacefull with a great beach you can walk to. They rent boards there also.

http://www.bahamasadventures.com/surfers_haven.lasso

It is certainly not posh, but it was some of the most pleasant days I have spent anywhere. If 5 people are on the beach, they consider that a crowded day. Plus $50/night. With that price you can save up enough to buy a plot of land there (~$4,000, ~$8,000 for beach front. Neal is also the real estate agent)

Neal and Rachel are both locals, so they know all the cool places to go as well as who to call. For example, there is no rental car agency, so if you want a car, they will call Tommy, and he'll drive a car over. When you are done, you leave the keys in the ignition and drop it off by the baseball field.

Bone is right abou the food, grab a water taxi back to the main city. There is a cool pirate bar and a few other places where the local eat.

Catch a cab to the Fish Fry (I think that's what they called it), thats where ALL the local eat.

Conch Critters is good, here's a pic

I dunno why people go to resorts like Atlantis when they go on vacation.. I dunno maybe it's just me but if I'm going on vacation to visit some other country, then I'm going to go check the place out not some tourist trap resort.

the best time I had in the Bahamas was on a boat for 2 weeks.. we touched land 3 times..

I have to agree, look into the barefoot cruises, its like renting a Winnebago on water, sail from one island to another. You can rent the sailboat with or without the crew.

Take a biased look at the Atlantis resort in the movie After the Sunset that came out a week or two ago
