Forum software for 10 million users?
Does anyone think vBulletin or phpBB will handle 10 millions users in their mysql database? What if I alter all their tables to InnoDB.
Note: There may be 10 million rows in the user table, but that doesnt mean they all post or do anything......so I'm just worried about their myISAM table having the 10 million rows (re: possible corruption), not load issues though

vbulletin is the better option for this but even that is a little shakey I would look into a custom build of a bulletin board if you are really looking to back it big time...

I really doubt that any version of MySQL will handle such amount of users.
There is a solution called Oracle. Mysql can't handle 10 million users and even a half of that. |

Well you could try and do that but i'm thinking it would just lead to more hassles in the long run... I would optimize some custom code and make sure your server has as much ram as possible...

As long as you keep it clean and maintain it I believe you would be fine. I say give it a shot and let us know how it turns out...Remember get a server with as much ram as humanly possible or it will lag big time...

I can't wait for MySQL Cluster to be fully released though, allowing us to have true Synchronous replication (and thus multiple Masters) ![]()

If you want to be safe on the hardware side, you may want to consider this extremely competitively priced Quad system from LayeredTech (I have 8 servers there, they have - real - 24/7 support, and the Quad Opteron will be on their Savvis network (former Cable & Wireless, good network)
? 4 x AMD Opteron 842+ w/1MB L2 cache ? 3 x 73GB U320 SCSI Hard Drive (RAID5) ? RAID 1/0/5 or JBOD available depending on OS ? 4GB ECC DDR RAM ? Bandwidth: 10Mb/s Un-Metered (Savvis) ? IP Addresses: 32 (29 usable) ? Private VLAN ? Number Of Servers: 1 ? Basic Resource Monitoring ? FreeBSD, Linux, Windows* ? 100% Self Managed and Dedicated Monthly Fee Options: ? $999.99 (Plus One-time Setup Fee of $179.00) This system can hold 16 GB with (relatively) cheap 1 GB dimms (and up to 32 GB with 2 GB dimms). Based on the price for the above system, the same with 16 GB RAM should be around $1,500 / month |
