dedicated portable dvd players with 17+ inch screens?

is there anything like that available? i have a 17 inch powerbook which i could use, but i'm looking for something at least as big screen-wise (or bigger), but easier to use, and without a computer. my mom loves watching movies and this would be something she could use to pass the time in the hospital. any ideas?

hmm, they definitely have tvs. but here in Canada, i'm not really sure they even have any inputs on the tv's they use. the tv's are from the early 80's. i'd much rather have a single solution.

Toshiba has a 15" that you can get for a decent price.

Toshiba claims to make a 17" that they call a portable but it's not really a portable, it's more of an LCD panel with a built in DVD player not portable so much like this 15". And good luck with your mom bro, hope it turns out for the best.

I hate the design but the size looks alright.

Quiet, I reckon you want the best, that's nice, but I think you might want to consider something smaller, or at least wait to see the layout of the hospital room. Space is probably already tight with other things there. One nice thing about the smaller 7" or 9" screens is you can set them on the side of the bed, and when you switch sides you're laying on, easily move it to the other side. Sounds trivial if you're healthy, but you need to adjust positions if you're laid up in bed a lot. One other suggestion: get a long-life battery, so she might watch is on battery power rather than on AC...again, it makes it easier to move around. Plus you don't have the cord potentially getting tangled, or knocking over other things as it's moved.

You might also consider some noise-canceling headphones, if she's got a roommate or if the hospital is kind of noisy. Bose makes some very comfortable ones.
