Garbled DV tapes?

(to add to my recent camera woes)

Have you ever had your mini DV tapes be fine and all of a sudden not log into your computer right? They look garbled with serious break up in the same cam you recorded the footage in.

So I pop it in another cam and it works fine.

All my tapes are now doing this with the cam they were recorded in, but the tapes are fine in another cam.

I cleaned the heads. No dice.

Any ideas on what would cause this?

I had the same problem. Finally just said fuck it, bought a new cam, and put the other on a shelf with the intention of having it serviced.

It's still on the shelf.

I had a garbled tape last week, it was only the first 40 seconds of footage though. Kinda fucked up the interview portion of the video. I didn't think to swap cameras, I just edited out the beginning.

yea heads are bad needs to be serviced ... i had this happen on a new gl2 something was wrong with it from the start - cleaning heads would fix it for a while, but ultimately heads needed repair or replacement - it was under warranty so canon fixed it and paid for shipping bada bing works great now.

careful recording on that cam - soon it will record all fucked up and you will lose a scene ...

We had that happen as well ,the guy at the camera store said to not only use the head cleaner in play mode but also in rec mode. Also suggested to buy a deck for the computer so you can put the mini DV in that instead of putting more wear on the camera.....hope this helps
