I have been in this business for ten years and I still don't understand...

how you are suppose to market your product without being flamed.

I understand you can purchase advertising and buy sigs and purchase opt-in newsletters etc..

but what i don't get is how do companies hire salesmen to sell for them without getting flamed. What tactics do salesmen use without being called "SPAMMERS"?

What is the right way to approach anyone about a product or service as a salesmen in this industry?

It seems as if anytime someone from our company hits anyone up on ICQ or emails them about a product or offer, its called SPAM.

Please, someone, anyone, tell me how any salesmen is suppose to market a product or service in this faceless industry of ours without being flamed.

Show me the steps, iI have no ego problems, I am willing to learn.

Do some covert marketing. Thats how I market all my babes/NSFW sites. Single gallery page with links back to your main site. Spam them on random message boards as "oh look at this hot chic" etc.....people do it here too. Marketing in the third person.

To tell you the truth I don't know if there is any other way to market your program without being called a spammer. I guess thats what the sig is for.

You can always include a hot babe in your post and mention it in the topic ([PIC])

You have to wait until somebody asks, then "spam" your program. You can also have some "annoucement" type threads once in awhile...and of course contests/promos.

Is this for Prodinix? That might be a bit tricker...

I like the question myself and have wondered the same thing. These boards are for webmasters to get together and do business. Why do people get pissed when someone offers a service or product?

I think people just got used to calling 'spam spam' whenever possible. Kind of like being the first to post '50 spammers' or '50 bored people'

Prodinix is a VOD ad on for anyone who wants a content management system that does DRM, pay per minute or pay per view.

Its for anyone who has WMV content.

you forget, this playground is "home" to many people who have no lives outside of their house. - "b/c it's unsolicited...why do people get pissed when a telemarketer calls and offers a service or product?" - Some people feel that this is a "private" community and they are important because they surf around here all day trying to impress people. If you have a good product and feel others should know about it, announce it. What's the worst that happens, a few jack-asses get mad for someone actually trying to conduct business on here???

I think Marty is asking about emailing/ICQing people..."It seems as if anytime someone from our company hits anyone up on ICQ or emails them about a product or offer, its called SPAM."

Very diff from posting threads on here. Like I said in an earlier post, announcement threads are fine, as long as it doesn't get out of hand like the same announcement every day.

You won't make a dime sitting on your hands hoping people discover your product. If you are in the biz to make money, use any means necessary. When you reach your goal, people will have no choice but to respect what you have accomplished. It is a given that there will be haters, but what is more important to you - making money or trying to make everyone like you??? It's 4:00 a.m. and this is the best I can state it typing with one eye open - Those who hold your efforts against you are not the one's you are interested in. Your potential clients will appreciate your efforts and product if it is in fact, a good product.

Funnily enough it is!
I get 5-10 times the same message from you guys to my different emails, even ones I don't use anywhere. I even started a thread about it a few months back, however I was kind enough not to mention your companys name. I just said how annoying it was.

It's a different matter if you knew who you were contacting, and NOT using copy/paste templates for each mail you can possibly get a hold of. Spend a minute looking a a particular website... see if you have anything to give to that website operator, you do? GREAT!!
Contact that webmaster and give your idea.

"Hey, I visited your site and noticed that you have *niche* galleries and ads there, we have a niche site which could do well with your site. bla bla bla"

NOT

"Hi! Please take the time to read this as it WILL mutually benefit both of us!

My name is John, and I'd like to tell you about our New Innovative Adult VOD affiliate program. We are aggressively looking at hundreds of potential webmasters across the Internet that currently promote VOD, PPV or MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP traffic! BLA BLA BLA"

Especially 5-10 times.

Perhaps you need to look at how salesmen in off line industries approach potential clients. Maybe your sales people need to set up an 'appointment' to talk to the webmasters.

Perhaps you need to offer a few beads and mirrors like pharmaceutical companies do to doctors - few people read what they think are spam emails and people don't like being bugged on ICQ so think outside this industry's box and see how sales people in other industries work their market.

but what i don't get is how do companies hire salesmen to sell for them without getting flamed.

Show me the steps, iI have no ego problems, I am willing to learn.

you my friend have just opened pandora's can of worms. ok, everyone, lets hear it? i'm curious too. i would like to hear it from the mouth of the babes....

how do you market in the adult space and not violate the pre-madonna attitudes out there?

i walk on eggshells everyday, even talking to friends of mine for 5+ years in adult. what is wrong with telling people what you have to offer?

thanks.

Marketing a $40k VOD system to this audience is like marketing new Mercedes at the welfare office. You aren't going to find too many interested buyers

Welcome to what I discussed with you on the phone a few weeks back. Maybe some of what I said makes sense now?

There is professional sales people on here that know how to sell without being accused of spamming or soliciting the wrong people. Knowing who they are is a different story.

If you build it.. they will come.. it's true if you have a QUALITY PRODUCT.

Here are my thoughts Marty:

If you are pitching Quality, people will consider it a great opportunity.
But if you are trying to sell shit.. everyone will consider it SPAM.

Does this happen to you often? I mean phone call rather then email for starters?
