Passing on a double solid through an intersection isn't the brightest move to begin with. Can't pin that one all on the cager.

Isn't that generalizing it a bit too much?

I blame the biker way more than I blame the minivan driver.

I'm a biker myself, and I say that was a way-stupid fucking thing to do.

Agreed. When I'm out on my bike, I imagine myself invisible. I expect everyone to crash in to me because they can't see me. You won't catch me passing like that.

look at the road sign that shows that the street is curving left, and follow the double yellow and you can see that the curve was the path of the road and not a turn

it was the biker's fault

After watching the video a couple more times, I can see that this was 100% the biker's fault.

First, he ignored the sign that showed that the road makes a sharp left curve, then he crossed a solid double yellow line, and he hit the van while it was following the curve.

The van had no reason to use turn indicators as it was just following the curve in the road.

So, maybe people that dont really pay attention to videos are the ones that should be shot and pissed on.

You get that a lot here. There's always exceptions. Main rule: There's exceptions to every rule, including this one.

Anytime someone generalizes a whole group based on one or two, just mentally tack "in general" on the phrase and let it go or you're going to find that you're just asking for issues.

Drinking Hard's a pretty good natured guy. I'd guess there's just a note of sarcasm in his original post that didn't translate to writing.

I generally agree that minivan and SUV drivers are fucking ignorant but the only ignorant one here was the bike drivers.

So what if you've owned SUV's, sportscars and motorcycles. Does that make you generally 33% ignorant?

I'm sure you're more relaxed and less cautious behind the wheel of an SUV than a sportscar or motorcycle.

People become ignorant to the road and the people around them when in big vehicles. It's unfortunate but once I get an SUV the same thing will probably happen to me.

People who still dirve small cars are a hell of a lot more cautious. We know, one hit, we're fucked hardcore.

Again tho, this accident was totally 110% the biker's fault.

It's funny, I sold my Corvette because I got in it one day in the middle of the summer and there was a 1 1/2 inch of dust in it. Turns out I was riding my bike if it was sunny, and rarely driving. Pretty expensive car to be depreciating in the driveway (with C6 model around the corner, too).

As I've gotten older, I've pretty much stopped taking any risks in traffic. I never really find myself in a hurry to be anywhere. Not having to be at work at a certain time or longing to get home after a long day at the office probably contributes a lot to that too.

I bought an SUV so I could take my dogs more places. I'm a little less worried about being hit, for sure, but I still try to be a cautious driver in any vehicle. I see your point though, I am probably even that much more cautious on the bike.

Someone at the Vancouver party last night, and I'm sorry but I don't remember his name (I'm horrible with names, good with faces) put it brilliantly last night: "Riding a bike in traffic is like playing space invaders except you only get one life.".

I currently have 3 bikes, a 4x4 truck and a minivan, so I guess I'm only 20% stupid.

Dh,

Was the bikers fault for your 1st link. Also since I drive a minivan with my wife and 4 kids in it, I guess you better come try and shoot my ass and piss on me. Really classy statement..

2nd link now loads, Depends on if that was an open street. Because if those two guys were racing on the street, then they are both at fault and the minivan driver is not at fault. He was rearended.

As others said, 100% biker's fault. It was a no passing zone to begin with, there was a sign clearly posted showing that the road curved ahead, and the van was just following the curve. It's hard to read the posted speed limit under the curve sign, but it looks to me like it's 20 mph, and in the same frame the bike's speed shows 49 mph, which he then accelerates to 60 mph. So 40 mph over the limit passing in a no-passing zone.
