"renew your domains" scam

This scam is probably old but I never saw it until now:

I got a shit load of letters (snail mail) in my post box this week
all form some place calling themselves:

"Domain Registry of America"

funny thing is their office is in Melbourne australia....
anyhow it was a reminder to renew my domains which immediately aroused my suspicion as i have never requested any regitrar contact me by snail mail for this

so then i read all the letters and every single one of them is asking me to "renew" www.mydomainnameshere.INFO

haha! smart asses - ive never owned a .info LOL

oh so i went to thw website just to see what the scammers charge:

$40 for a renewal!!!

oh and their "bulk rate" is $15 per domain!!

you gotta give em credit for trying - I wonder how many ppl get sucked in by it though?

I been getting them weekly for years. The letter looks all official like you have to renew with them.

So real in fact my wife believes "Domain Registry of America" is Go-Daddy because she's been scared enough times we were going to lose a domain everytime we get one she goes into our godaddy account and renews the domain another year LOL

I think tons of people fall for it .. especially non-english speaking people... if you have an important website running and you get this one you get scared

I have gotten them for a long time myself. My only concern with these solicitations is they tend to fool the average business owner. I had 1 client that was fooled by it.

Get tons of those for a company called "domain registry of canada" in official government size brown envelope with little canadian flag almost exactly like government, doesn't look like a sales pitch, looks like a bill.

I got their lawyers on the phone, and suggested that they were going to spend a bunch of time on TV in the next few weeks if they didn't back off - I haven't gotten any from them in over a year as a result.

fuckwad scammer bastards fuckheads.

Why do you think no sane people want anything to do with the internet? All the fucking asswipe scammers are here. We are generally fucking up the best business model ever created.

thanks fuckwads!

Alex
