The new owner of Adult Industry Auctions is...

...going to be whoever is the winner of the auction!

There's just a few hours left in the auction. The high bid is currently at $400.

The winner of the auction will get the domain name, website design, auction script, and if you need it, hosting. I will help you thru every step of the transfer process and even help you with anything after you assume control.

The script behaves almost exactly like eBay. It even has stores, just like eBay Stores.

Good luck!

out of curiosity, why would someone keep utbidding themselves in the begginning? note: I have never bought anything off of e-bay, so if this is something common and expected for whatever reason, then I apologize in advance.

The way I have it set up now, everything is free. You could keep it the way it is now, without charging any fees, and make income on ad spots. Once the site really gets active, the banner/ad spots would be golden. You could, of course, charge fees, like eBay does. You can control all these settings in the admin.

It's called 'proxy bidding'.

When you make a bid, you put in your maximum amount that you want to pay. Your bid will jump up automatically, to outbid other bids, up until you hit your max bid.

It's just like how eBay is.

how is this a beneficial feature to the prospective buyer, when it blows it's load, so to speak, within a minute and without needing to outbid anyone? seriously, why not just place the max bid intially, and save a minute of useless interaction from the proxy bidding software?

edit: not 1 minute, but 6... yes I can count, lol

That's just how online auctions work.

You can read more about it here - http://pages.ebay.com/help/buyerguide/bidding-prxy.html

You do place a max bid initially, however your actual bid only goes as high as needed to beat the current bid. Then, if someone bids higher than your actual bid, the system proxy bids for you up to your max bid.

For example, say the current bid is $195 with $5 increments and I'm willing to bid up to $400. I put in my max bid of $400 and the actual bid will go up to $200 with me as the winner. If someone comes along and bids $205, the system will proxy bid for me to $210 and I'll still be the current winner. If someone comes along and bids $350, the system will bump my bid to $355. And if someone comes along and bids $401, they'll be the winner.

this is how it would make sense, and be beneficial... however, it's not what happened in this auction... the bids were all outbidding himself, no one else. and all the bids were placed within 6 minutes... odd to me, that's all.

The repeated bids that you see there are someone trying to put a number of individual bids in, trying to become the high bid - but because of the proxy bidding, he kept getting out bid each time he did this, because someone else had a higher max bid amount.

Are you running Version 5 or earlier? Did you have them do a custom skin for your site or is it out of the box? Have you had any problems collecting funds for auction services and what method do you use? What has been your greatest problem besides lack of time?

Just wondering?

okay, at first glance this response makes absolutely no sense. but, let's take it one step at a time:

"The repeated bids that you see there are someone trying to put a number of individual bids in, trying to become the high bid"

unless no one else bids, doesn't it only take one bid to become the high bid?

"but because of the proxy bidding, he kept getting out bid each time he did this,"

kept getting outbid by whom? himself?

"because someone else had a higher max bid amount"

so, someone else was also using a proxy bidder, who had a higher max bid? but it never out bid any of this guys bids... unless it was Spunky1, who outbid him finally, but that still doesn't explain why pubenemy would keep outbidding himself.

Turbo, I don't think you've grasped the concept of proxy bidding yet.

Read the info here - http://pages.ebay.com/help/buyerguide/bidding-prxy.html - and here http://www.adultindustryauctions.com/help.php

I think spunky1 kept putting in small increments in his max proxy bid trying to outbid me just by a little bit instead of putting a larger number right off the bat. Seems logical to me and Ive seen plenty of ebay auctions go like that. Not my style of bidding but everyones different.

yes, I do think I grasp it, actually... from your site:

"Proxy bidding can aid your chances of winning an auction and help avoid you being outbid at the last moment. To place a proxy bid enter in the maximum price you are willing to pay for the item. If another user places a bid on the same auction automatic bids will be placed on your behalf in accordance with your maximum bid amount. With proxy bidding you will pay the lowest possible price until someone else places a higher bid."

see the bolded part? well, who was outbidding him? that's all I've been trying to address, is that he was only outbidding himself.

how is someone supposed to know that pubenemy isn't actually an alt of yours trying to make it seem like there is interest in this particular bid? Though, honestly, the reason I didn't initially say this is because if that's what was happening, then it'd be a stupid way to do it, since it lists all the bids... and causes questions, as evidenced by my questions.

then why do spunky1's proxy bids not show in the list? using this reasoning, there would be alternatig bids between you and him?

It doesnt show the bidder until he outbids the other bidder. I know it seems odd but thats how it works. I can assure anyone that I am not turboface also check out ebay it works the same way. Youll see several bids by the same bidder in a row like that looking like its outbidding theirself.

Spunky was placing a number of bids because pubenemy kept automatically outbidding him. As you can see, Spunky had to go up to $202 to finally out bid pubenemy. $200 was pubenemy high bid.

yes, that is another example. but it still doesn't adress the why... why doesn't it show all of these mysterious outbids that you were beating? why only yours?

what good is a list of bids/activity if it doesn't list all of the bids/activity?

You guys don't use eBay right...

This was the max bid for pubenemy:

pubenemy (0) 200.00 USD May. 07, 2005 22:26:3

This was the bid that beat his $200:

spunky1 (0) 202.00 USD May. 07, 2005 22:28:14

eBay works the exact same way, its totally kosher.

spunky kept putting in several bids in attempt to become the top bidder. since all his bids were below pubenemy's max bid, the system automatically outbid spunky on pubenemy's behalf.

only top bids show up on the bidders list. pubenemy bid 10.50, making him the top bidder. then spunky bid 11.50 which was automatically outbid by pubenemy with a 12.50 bid. so spunky bid 13.50 and was once again outbid with a 14.50 bid. since spunky was never the top bidder until he hit $202, his name only shows once on the bidders list.

still leaves an odd way of displaying information that is presented as being relevant. In my opinion, if someone is going to offer me a list of all activity/bids, it really defeats the purpose if it doesn't actually list all activity.

you seem to be busy answering "proxy" questions, so I'll ask again:

Are you running Version 5 or earlier? Did you have them do a custom skin for your site or is it out of the box? Have you had any problems collecting funds for auction services and what method do you use? What has been your greatest problem besides lack of time?

Just wondering?

Oh, sorry. I didn't see your post there.

I have the latest version of the auction script. I have a modified version of the latest skin as well.

I haven't had any problems collecting any fees because I do not charge any fees. The way I have the site set up now, everything is free.

Time is my only problem. I have too many other projects going on right now. I'm sure someone will be able to put the time into this site that it really deserves.

The script is called phpprobid. It's one of the best auction scripts on the market.
