Pretty stupid idea IMO . People in Iraq need the army there to keep things under control.

my uncle had 3 feet of water in his home the previous hurricane that hit their area.

So this time, he evacuated because of the storm.

At least he is alive, but he has nothing now.

Why do you hate the Iraqi people? Also what does government spending have to do with private donations? Or are you just ignorant?

I want to donate, but I want to make sure the money goes to those who need it. I have a hard time trusting charities that skim so much off the top

Please don't forget all the abandoned and stranded dogs and cats.

NoahsWish.com sends teams in to disaster areas to rescue the critters.

They need your help. This is going to be the biggest animal rescue operation ever.

I can tell you from personal experience from 9-11, don't give to the redcross.
Give to the salvation army. Redcross was nothing but trouble, and skimmed so much money off the top. They were on tv all the time, and then kept a shitload of money for "future' things. Meanwhile they were paying for the volunteers to go to nice dinners and broadway shows. They gave us 15 dollars to buy a pair of shoes in NYC. You can't even get a pair at Payless for that.

Salvation army was right there cutting checks on the spot and giving any emotional support you needed. They weren't on tv touting how great they are. They were just doing what they do.

I will give to salvation army for the rest of my life, because they were a lighthouse in the shit storm that 9-11 was.

I'm in Baton Rouge. I was employeed by a company in New Orleans but Thats gone now it seems. I've had no electricity for three days now. Its fucking horrible having to spend the hot fucking nights in my house because people that are displaced from New Orleans are looting Baton Rouge.

On another note, what is shocking about the castastrophe that hit the gulf coast is that, as people living in so called civilized world, we are use to see this type of devastation in third world countries ...

Looking at this now and realising that this is/was New Orleans, Biloxi, etc .,. is hard to accept ... Shows that nature makes no distinction of wealth, religion, race, etc ...

And yes, I donated to the american red cross ( http://www.redcross.org/donate/donate.html )

Just donated to the Salvation Army. They are great in these disasters. Ask victims of Hurricane Agnes back in 72 who helped them out.

I too have nothing but praise for the Salvation Army. I have never heard of them being involved in controversy...and the Red Cross is frequently involved in controversy.
