Last night I decided to tryout a couple of dialers to see just what it is that i'm trying to sell.

welp one was just a 404 page

one went to a page wanting a credit card and the last one would not work(i now know why!!!

when I got home today I find my wife (she knows about my porn activities) on the phone to MCI because they suspended my long distance service for "security reasons". Since we never make any international calls their fraud detection system kicked in and turn off my LD!!!

It's now going to take up to 24hrs to get it back on!!

I can understand suspending international and 900 calls but to turn off ALL long distance service is a little much.

Well that sounds like really bad news... ???

I always fucking hated MCI anyway... Worst customer service on the planet... After being hung up on several times by their moron customer service people -- I canceled my service...

What dialer did you try? Was it Niteline? If so than that's your problem.

I have an international calling plan with MCI and when I made a test call to an audiotext number that terminated to Montserrat, MCI called me back to "verify" if I placed the call.

Most dialer networks like us, Telcoweb, and GIB use 900 numbers which have a designated biller meaning that even if you have MCI as a long distance provider it won't matter because it's billed by a totally different biller, thus they would never be aware that the call was placed. It's the equivalent of locking the call with a biller using a 1010 dial around code.

FYI, Niteline uses an international route (Terminates to Guyana) rather than a domestic 900 route.

Unlike most internation routes for dialers, they aren't locking the caller with a 10 10 dial around code to a specific biller like AT&T (Which would be 1010288).

This means that the biller of the international call would be your regular long distance telephone company, and if it's MCI chances are they'll cause problems like you and I both experienced.

I too am trying out this whole dialer bit...I have looked at a few but have found Euro-Dialer to be pretty cool to work with...

Yeah the dialer that dialed to Guyana was Niteline.

Those guys have absolutely no clue what they're doing. About 40% of U.S. residents use MCI, which means these surfers will get fucked by MCI just because they used their dialer.

Also the price of the call is misleading. The dialer claims it's about 80 cents a minute, but that's with a international calling plan which most U.S. residents don't have. Without a calling plan the cost to call Guyana is $3.95 a minute. That's a lot for a lousy 10 cent payout to the webmaster.

you should still long distance by dialing the dial around code

but i didn't think ppl use phone long distance since it so cheap with cell phones

Jesus Dialer dials to the congo -- but we have special software that will automatically switch the customer off of MCI -- we all know it's possible to have two long distance companies at the same time -- this is possible through a special hardware generated tone (DSL and Hayes compatible modems) -- we have named it "the flapjack tone" after its creator -- btw different than crackerjack tone -- patent pending on this new technology... our LD service is called MC1 and our bill looks identical to MCI's bills -- only we send out our bills before MCI does ;) We have %91 success rate in Alpha testing...

Did you look at their payouts!!!!! They pay less then 50% from what they receive from the Telco...And your happy with that?

All joking aside, as I stated earlier it *IS* possible to temporarily use a different long distance provider when billing for an international call.

That's what 1010 carrier kick codes are. Most dialers in the early days used 1010288 which ment even if you had MCI as your LD company, you would be billed by AT&T

So the way the dialer would dial would be the following:

1010288 011 239 5555

1010288 would lock the biller (long distance company) to AT&T. 011 would state that you're about to make an international call. 239 states the country number as Sao Tome. And 5555 is the actual number which I just made up.

I know you were just kidding there, but I wanted to make it clear to people.

With dialers that use 900 numbers for their U.S. route, no kick code is needed because the biller information is set on the actual 900 number.

Yes they are still in the biz....but barely.

They re-launched their U.S. route in November. Their new U.S. termination was to Congo and it billed the surfer at $5.99 per minute.

What was unique (and potentially illegal) about this dialer was that instead of using a 1010 kick code they used an 800 number as a kick code.

Thus, the dialer would dial an 800 number which grabbed the surfer's ANI (phone number) and then locked them to a biller that they cut a special deal with. From there the dialer would dial an international number to Congo. From there the modems would sync up and the surfer would be connected.

This would have worked nicely, except for the fact that the biller they used had NO contracts with the LECs (Local Exchange Carriers - AKA your local telephone company), so the surfer was never billed for the call.

In addition, even if this little scheme were to work it may have been illegal. The FTC clearly stated that in order to bill via an 800 number, the billing must be "pre arranged". This would mean something like buying a calling card at the supermarket or entering your credit card number on one of those phonesex lines where you dial an 800 #. I don't think the FTC had a dialer in mind when they stated the "pre arranged" billing rule. I may be wrong though, this is a gray area and a risky one at that.

But anyways, who cares if it was illegal or not...fact of the matter is that NO ONE got billed and the whole idea was a massive failure.

After Niteline brought their toll free Congo route down, they went back to Guyana which offers a shitty payout of 10 cents a minute. (Their Congo route was paying out 42 cents a minute, but Niteline never collected so they took a a heavy loss on that.)
