Favorite "bad" movie or movie that everyone else hated?

I just got back from seeing "Hart's War" (review coming to setgo.com later this week) and I know it got pounded by critics and online movie geeks...

I also have a huge fondness for "bad" movies and really enjoyed "Batttlefield Earth"

So, what was your favorite "bad" movie that other's just hated?

I think you and I have some similar taste in movies. My kung fu movie collection is giant. I'm into old cult classics and b-movies.

My vote: Redneck Zombies. I think that and Tromeo & Juliette are Troma's best movies. Redneck Zombies has some of the most disgusting gore I've ever seen. The acting is terrible, but that makes it even better.

2nd on your list would be Freddy Got Fingered. Why didn't anybody like that shit? I laughed my ass off. Maybe I just have a wierd sense of humor... I don't know.

There are some movies that a lot of people consider bad movies, but I don't even see that way... like every Cronenberg movie ever made. David Cronenberg is my favorite director. Argento is another good one... Romero...

I gotta say, though... if anybody votes for The Postman, then they need their tv & movie priveledges taken away. Kevin Costner movies should be outlawed - he's the one legitimate case against free speech.

hahah Danny, my favorite movie list would give most "movie critics" a case of the shivers ;))

my all time favorite terribly ba film is "Samson Versus The Supreme Dictator From Outer Space" It stars a pro wrestler named samson (billed as such in the title credits) who is half man and half tiger and can fly (hence the reason he has to wear a mask while wrestling (gotta hide the tiger face). He has to battle the ultimate in evil "The Supreme Dictator" who is a 70 year old man (who looks like someone's senile grandfather), who has a huge eyeball painted on his forhead and wears a paper Burger King crown on his head. He starts his reign of terror by terrorizing young Wayne Phillips and his sister/girlfriend named Sissy Phillips and even seranades her with a song to open the movie ("Green is the color of spring in the springtime, but it's brown in the autumn months"). We also can't forget the sherrif who shares a car with Samson (and a deputy who doubles as Samson's wrestling tagteam partner). Did I mention this movie was shiot with a camcorder? and that all the male leads wear bad old lady wigs? and did I mention that the space ship effects are done buy holding up a piece of construction paper with cotten glued to it and move with a magnet to mvoe the metallic spaceship? or how about the Supremem Dictator's sidekick who spouts one of my all time favorite lovie lines ("I can't wait to see this evil plan uunfold" in answer to the SD commanding "Let us spek the earth language, english")?

for those who can't wait to view this masterpiece of cinema (it's so rare and bad that it's not even listed at imdb.com) I'll bring a copy to the Florida webmaster show and hold a viewing of this sci fi/wrestling classic that my dear wife sums up with the following mini-review "That's the most unwatchful piece of shit infested garbage I've ever seen in my life...please god, let me go blind now, or better yet, I'll just stab myself in the eyes with this used fork and wear a piece of lime juice covered barebwire as a tampon")...we'll just say "thumbs up" for me and "thumbs down" from my wife ;))))

i thought freddy got fingered was funny as... didn't vote for it cause it shouldn't be on the list.. I can't believe they got the funding to make the postman.. FUCK it was bad.. and not bad in a "hey it's bad but good" way.. just in a SAS troops should have surrounded the production area and exterminated them for the good of all mankind sorta way..

well, that movei, my friend, is on a list all by itself..amongst the truly elite ;)

Linnea Quigley, Michelle Bauer and the line "It's too bad we had to kill her. I really liked the outfit she had on."

so anything from Fred Olen Ray and/or Jim Wynorski is an autmatica classic before even hit play on the VCR...ok "Cyclone" was a piece of shit from Fred Olen Ray, but can be almost forgiven due to an appearance of Heather Thomas ;)))

oops, that last post looked like I was crediting Fred Olen Ray for Sorririty Babes In The Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama"....that was a David DeCoteau(sp?) movie.....

my mother's quick review of "Samson Vs. The Supreme Dictator From Outer Space": "I can't believe you put that piece of shit in my VCR...I wondr if it's too late to abort you yet...you know those starnage marks on top of your head? They're hangar scrapes...I hated this movei so much, I'm going to punch your sister in the face"

How about Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death. Bill Maher teams up with Shannon Tweed in that one.

You guys remember those old REALLY bad ninja flicks? I can't remember any titles offhand. I'm not talking about stuff like Revenge of the Ninja (though Sho Kosugi made some great ninja b-movies, too). I'm talking about the ones with a bunch of white guys trying to squint their eyes, running around in multicolored ninja suits doing bad flips, with ridiculous special effects. I used to have one I got from Walmart for a buck that kicked ass, but I forget what it was called. I've seen several. I also saw one on the Spanish channel in the Venetian last January that was great!! I couldn't understand much of what they were saying (I speak a LITTLE Spanish), but I didn't even need to understand their words to realize their genius.

Well, that does it, I'm gonna have to make it a point to make it to the Florida show. It was up in the air, but I gotta check out that movie.

Sho Kosugi is god :)
I can't remmeber any titles offhand either....I did a full article for setgo.com on Hong Kong Cinema...I used to get these movies that were in Chinese with Japanese subtitles, but didn't care because the chopsockey was asskicking to the extreme...while I loved "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" I felt it my duty to point out other movies to my wife that they use the wire effects and the choreography by Wo Ping)...

Actually, your articles on SetGo are why I mentioned we have some similar taste. Like I said, my kung fu collection is pretty big. I have just about every Yuen Wo Ping movie... a few Sammo Hung movies... the list goes on. I've been collecting them since I was a kid.

Have you seen Time and Tide? I saw it at the theater when it came out, because I was pretty excited about Tsui Hark going back to Hong Kong after being forced to come to the U.S. and being reduced to making Van Damme movies (I have the Once Upon a Time in China dvd, and the audio commentator explained that he was too controversial a director for China when the government changed over, so he was forced to leave the country if he wanted to continue making movies. That's why we got stuck with garbage like Double Team and Knockoff rather than his normal good movies. Now he's back in Hong Kong doing what he's best at.) Anyway, I thought Time and Tide was great. It's not really a kung fu movie, but it's a REALLY good action movie. The way he directed it (especially the cinematography) is pretty unique.

I liked Crouching Tiger, too, though most of the people in my kung fu class didn't like it.... because it's not very authentic kung fu. I think it's one of the best mainstream dramatic/action movies of all time. The only thing that bothers me is the Americanization of kung fu. When you see Yuen style choreography in Charlie's Angels, it starts to turn the stomach. I'm afraid Hollywood is going to ruin Chinese culture.

Oh, and sorry, but Van Damme movies fall into that category of bad with no hope of enjoyment... aside from Bloodsport. That one was terrible, but like The Karate Kid, I always watch it when I see it on cable, even though I hate it.

Speaking of The Karate Kid... "You're the best, around. Nothing's ever gonna bring you down." Don't you love that song? (Now it's gonna be stuck in my head for 5 weeks) Every time I think of Karate Kid, I think of that stupid song. Damn it! Get out of my head!

I haven't seen Time and Tide yet but have heard good word of mouth....I loved Once Upon A Time IN China as well as Tsui Hark's "Chinese Ghost Story" series"...and have a couple Sammo Hung flicks (I still cringe at his American tv series (Arsenio Hall, what the gloryhole fuck? ;)))

I want to be on that ganmeshow "Beat The Geeks" on Comedy Central...I want to be the special guest geek and be the "b-movie geek" or the "horror movie geek" ;)))

I have a soft spot for the Muscles From Brussels (movies, not the coke snorting wife beater himself ;)) with his fluff fair like Bloodsport, Kickboxer and Time Cop...Hard Target was pretty good (anything John Woo does is always going to get positive reviews from me...well, except Broken Arrow...yikes...)

What a fucking awesome list, Sykk.
I am also a fan of cinematic masterpieces that would torture the mainstream critics. I have "Bad Movie Night" at my place at least once a month to enlighten friends and open their eyes to the lesser known movie greats.
Mystery Science Theatre 3000 made many of my favorites popular again. I love the show - it was the only place I could see some of those films. It's almost mainstream to appreciate flicks like Teenagers from Outserspace and The Giant Gila Monster but those were a couple of my favorite movies when I was growing up.
I would go on about the Italian gladiator flicks, the Mexican Santos movies, anything by the great Bert I. Gordon, Roger Corman and Ed Wood but you probably are amiliar with their works.
I liked Ishtar. That would be one of my favorite bad modern movies. I just bought Hudson Hawk on dvd and made my wife watch it - fun fun fun. There is nothing like the excruciatingly sweet pain of a cinematic disaster.

I agree, Jim carey is a funny bastard. I like everything he has done aside from The Mask and his more serious roles.

"Killer Klowns From Outer Space" is one of the best movies all time, hahaha. And the soundtrack....!! Still listen to the title theme now and then when I've had a few beers to many:-)

MGM has been a godsend to "bad movie" fans...they're releasing a ton of classics and most are two movies per disc...

I'm so glad "Killer Klowns From Outer Space" is now on DVD....

[Labret], I'm also a fan of Jim Carrey...I've seen Dumb and Dumber over 50 times...and still crack up...

I do a ton of b-move browsing at http://www.b-independent.com some great shot on camcorder/low budget/no budget flicks reviewed there and of cours links to get the movies :)

How about Meet the Feebles. Actually, anything by Peter Jackson is great (yeah, even Lord of the Rings, which obviously doesn't fall into the b-movie category).

Meet The Feebles is the god of drug addicted sexholics suicidal muppet movies....

Peter Jackson is also in that class of directors that will always get my hard earned dollars...even The Frightners which was my least favorite PJ movie, but still pretty damn good (even with the appearance of Micheal J Fox). In fact...my current screen saver is a "Bad Taste" screensaver I got from http://www.joblo.com :)

My wife has a little cousin who used to demand to see Killer Clowns from Outer Space over and over again. When asked what video he wanted to see he'd say:

"Kiwwer Kwowns! Kiwwer Kwowns!"

It's pretty funny. Worth seeing once.

When I was in 7th grade, I was in some sort of library class (a full class that taught library/study/research skills). The teacher decided we were going to make our own movie to teach future students in her class about the library. She wanted to make a parody of something, and my choice ended up winning the vote... Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. It ended up being the kind of dumb stuff you'd expect from a 7th grade instructional parody, but it's pretty funny that it was Killer Tomatoes.

Anybody want to join me for a Kevin Costner movie-burning? Let's rid the world of the evil that is Costner!

I'm more anti-censorship than Jello Biafra, but I bet even Jello himself would join me at the Costner movie-burning.

All except The Untouchables, of course.... his one acheivement. Of course, even that movie would have been better without him.
