Wegcash Accounting office without power from Hurricane Wilma.

As many of you know, Wegcash operates outside of two main offices: One is located in Orange County, California while one is located in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

While our Marketing and Programming teams operate from Orange County, our accounting office operates from Miami-Dade County. The wake of Hurricane Wilma has left our Florida location without power, inadvertently effecting our payroll system to both Webmasters and employees of the company. We have taken measures that we hope will avoid any webmaster payout lapses.

We have temporarily moved our accounting team to central Florida and we have our office in Orange County working tirelessly to process the payments. In the event that a delay in payouts does occur, we would like to apologize in advance and express with all sincerity that we are working relentlessly to expedite the process.

Without power to our Florida office, it has created a very difficult strain on our accounting functionality. However, we are aware that public officials in Florida are working fiercely to provide the region with much needed power; for that, we extend our gratitude and also send our best wishes to all those effected in the region.

I will keep you updated. We thank you all for your understanding.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Cory.

Today I was wondering... would underground power lines be affected by a hurricane?

It doesn't help that much, Hurricane Isable knocked them out when previous studies concluded it would not. Also, it takes longer to get them back to a functional state. It also raises electric bills to over twice the normal amount.

Bumping for the really late night crowd!

Sly, the problem is that at some point wires will be above ground. Sometimes they may be underground all the way from the house to the powerstation (which is how it was where I used to live) but if the powerstation gets hit, all bets are off

But in theory, if you live somewhere with underground wires your power will go out less than if you have above ground wires. I have above ground wires for the first time in 20 or so years and my power goes out approx once a week. Lots of trees+wire=me getting a generator

"Although overhead lines may have more exposure than underground lines to wind damage or collisions, underground facilities are more prone to flood damage, especially in coastal areas where exposure to salt water could cause an outage."

Hurricanes produce a lot of water, so it usually floods the underground facilities, either that or the overhead lines that feed the underground lines go out. Since underground lines cost 15x more than overhead lines, they are usually only used for subdivisions...
