No More Smoking at Westin Hotels...

That's right, all Westin Hotels, which is where summer Internext is held is no longer allowing smoking in the hotels or POOLSIDE!! $200 fine if caught ... ouch!

"WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - A major hotel chain is going smoke-free next month and will add $200 to the bill of anyone who violates the policy, an executive said Monday.

Westin Hotels & Resorts is banning smoking indoors and poolside at all 77 of its properties in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, said senior Vice President Sue Brush. Smokers will have to go to a designated outdoor area, she said."

Rest of Story Here

I'm a casual smoker when I'm drinking ... I can do without. I know many that can't and won't. Interesting to see the fines rack up ....

I think it is okay that they make rules not to smoke inside, or even have a fine if "you" do. But if someone comes into my room and smokes, I best not get the fine...

However, if I'm outside, I will be damned that they will fine me. They can make me leave or tell me to put it out, but it isn't illegal to smoke and being so they can't enforce a fine.

Maybe I'll sponsor smoking fines. The main problem, I think, is that they could probably levy them as many times as they want - once per incident. LOL

My question is what about the Westin in Vegas...it's a staple to be able to smoke practically anywhere in Vegas.

Now here's food for thought...Marriott is owned by a Mormon and he swore he'd never have anything to do with gambling, etc. Well, there is a JW Marriott in Summerlin (Vegas) that has a casino. Come to find out a week ago when we were there getting Turkey Day dinner, the hotel and casino are separate due to a HALLWAY!! Bullshit if you ask me ... so now will the Westin claim separate entities for their casino and hotel so smoking is allowed?

Brad
I was wondering the same thing ... pending how many complaints vs. the amount of money made will tell you soon enough. I can understand rooms, I really can. I know I've smoked in many non-smoking rooms and well I shouldn't. I should have just gotten a smoking room from the get-go ... either way the Westin will compare money earned vs. business lost from this and see which makes them more.
