Have you guys found that a persons word doesn't mean shit anymore?

Seriously.... why is it that some people can't just do what they say they are going to do??

doesn't it make you feel like a bitch when you say you are going to do something, and then you don't deliver?

personally, that is one of the worst feelings ever, having someone rely on you and for whatever reason you can't come through...

share your thoughts...

even though i'm young, i know that a long time ago a persons word had a lot more weight then it does today.

It's this day and age. No one is responsible for actions anymore thanks to the way society is forming. People feel like they can just flake and fuck off whenever they want and not feel guilty.

good point man... it does seem like too many people these days dont hold certain things in high reguard such as loyalty honesty and a willingness to help others... people are soft nowadays and the majority of us (myself included) would probably nor been able to hack it back 50, 60 or 70 years ago... those old fogeys might be all anti porn & shit, but they were a tuff bunch of people.

Hey now, do not lump everyone into that. No one is a fairly wide net. I am always responsible for my actions more so when it is a fuck up. I always fess up and take the heat, even if I am just the middleman. I do not believe in flaking and when I give someone my word I come through, even if it means I hurt myself.

When i was younger I "flaked" on people too often ... and it was the worst feeling ever.

Today I am able to look at the 7 projects I have going with 7 different companies / people, and know that everyone is happy ... and that is a DAMN good feeling. Changes my entire attitude and the way I feel about myself.

In the past though, I didn't flake because I was trying to fuck anyone over, simply because I had a chronic case of procrastination that was fuckin' killing me ... thank God I was able to overcome that ...

I'd rather work on a good word and a handshake than a contract any day.

There will always be snakes and cheats but this is an insular community so if the fake drama slowed down a bit and we could discuss real drama I think there would be a lot of people who would work their own way out of business.

However, some of the fake drama is pretty damned funny. I think most of it is simply a distraction for the real drama. Drama fake or not gets drowned out now.

The boy who cried wolf.

I'm in a similar situation now, had to drive all over the place to get some money sent out on a certain day ... ohh ... 'bout a month ago, and still have not even seen "proofs" of the project. The guy hasn't disappeared though, just has some really good excuses (as well as a good reputation), so hopefully he will come through.

Really testing my patience ...

Outsourcing stuff is a really productive way to grow your business, but sometimes i wish i had the skills to do things myself so that i didn't have to rely on people... and sit around and be unproductive while waiting for other people to do shit, and do it on time.

IMO a lot of this can be blamed on the Internet- so many blind deals done, so easy for people to avoid others and flake.

Harder for someone to flake out when the other party is standing in their office staring at them.

I installed one of those things in my office... that they have in convenience stores ... the high tech shit.. that in case of a robbery you press a button and it slides up that bulletproof class and locks in the robber...

so you're wrong... its in fact EASIER to flake in person

Well I hope you sue the crap out of whoever hit you. That is always messed up when a driver thinks they own the road and then end up hitting someone.

With an injury, you have a certain minimum claim. In fact, I bet the insurance company will pay up without you even needing to sue. If you do file a civil complaint, they will most likely pay up without much of a struggle. If the moron was uninsured then you will need to file a complaint and all. I bet your insurance would do all of that.

Good luck! I want you to nail that idiot! There is nothing worse than a careless driver who causes an accident AND an injury.

The web and voicemail make it much easier these days for people to flake and not follow through on their word. I can't begin to count the number of emails I've sent over the years that went unanswered by various companies, or messages I've left on voicemail that I never heard back from. Its a sad in-joke around our household these days. It seems as though the number of people who don't follow through on doing what they promise is rising geometrically. Ask anyone for an explanation why - and you'll get a wide range of excuses and explanations. Is it the self-centered me-generation? Or the fact we're all having to contend with an increasing workload and demands on our time throughout the day? Mix in some apathy and indifference. Or just plain old-fashioned poor upbringing by parents who never took the time to impart a sense of responsibility in their children? Perhaps combinations of the above.

Of course its maddening. How many times have you sat around for half the day waiting for someone to call or show up....and then not hear from them? All the while, there's very little you can do about it. You're tempted to vent on their thoughtless and inconsiderate ass and tell them what you really think - but what's that going to solve? Its not going to change them. Just another aggravating confrontation that gets the blood pressure rockin'.

Whether its intentional or accidental - it all comes down to thoughtlessness and disregard for others. And its growing worse by the day.

Also, when you are involved in an automobile accident, the report is quickly and easily accessible. Sometimes they are even available right on the web. So, if you did miss your deadline, you could easily provide the accident report to the other person involved in the business transaction which would assure them that you weren't just making something up.

Hey, do you have a copy of the accident report handy (or easy access to the accident report)? You could have another claim that the report was mishandled.

Clearly, a low velocity impact classification cannot be assigned to an accident where at least one of the drivers was going 50-60. When you do the mathematics, the velocity will even increase further when you consider your speed and direction.

If you have been injured in a collision that ICBC has determined to be a low velocity impact, you should contact a lawyer. They may be able to help you recover for your personal injury claim.

Let me know because you may still have a way to collect for your pain and suffering. This isn't over!

Look, that's all well and good but I need for you to wire me 10k right now. Don't worry about the details, we will work it out later. Wire the money NOW! I will pay you back so quickly!

I'm a little hesitant to post in this thread because I don't want to jinx it.

I've been very fortunate in that anytime I've needed anything done for me, I have a great circle of friends and associates that can refer me to the right person. I cannot emphasize enough, how important it is to have that in this, or any industry. With the anonymity of the net, this industry probably moreso than most.

Plus, when there's time and/or money involved, NOTHING beats the GFY search function. While GFY is full of a lot of BS, the search function is one of the most important tools we as webmasters have at our disposal. You just need to take the time to filter through all the crap.

I also can't remember a time when I wasn't able to deliver what I promised. If "I" couldn't do it personally, I made damn sure it was still done. But, more importantly than being able to deliver, is the ability to accept responsibility when you weren't able to keep your word...no matter what the reason may have been.

You'll gain a lot more respect by owning up to something and being 3 days late, than you will by making every excuse in the book and only being 1 day late. At least in my eyes.

That happens to everybody. Just don't trust an asshole who lets you down. That's the only thing U can do about it (and smack him in the stupid face)

My word is my bound.

I've always lived on a modern version of the samurai code. If I say I'm going to do something, I do it. If I don't do it, I make up for the fact that I went against my word. But I never flake out.

I hate flakers with a passion.
