My webhost wants me to leave...

I think I need a dedicated server...

I'm on a virtual plan with dreamhost right now, and I got an email from them recently that stated:

Specifically Username's CPU minute usage for today is 257.19. The daily
limit is 60 CPU minutes. You will continue to receive these notifications
as long as your resource consumption is over 50 CPU minutes.

I have no idea what could be using all this CPU usage. I looked at my resources and killed phpadsnew which I figured was taxing the system and I'm still getting these emails daily. I don't know why...

So I'm thinking I should move to a dedicated server? does that make sense?

Who's a good host for servers right now? I'd like a control panel, and the ability to host mysql on something other than local host. I've been looking into webair, but I think mike might be busy.

Anyone got any info on a good host? I can't spend a ton of money as I'm not making any money off the site right now.

btw, i asked dreamhost about a dedicated server and they said they were out... i didn't know that was possible. i like dreamhost, i dont want anyone to think otherwise. I don't like having to use CURL but other than that, theyve been great.

I've been hearing this from a lot of DreamHost customers lately. There has been a lot of talk like this on WHT.

What type of package are you on right now? You might not need a dedicated server, just some quality shared hosting.

Hit me up and I'd be more than happy to take a look at things for you.

Ewww...dreamhost......

I was on them for a year and a half...
I absolutely hate them with a passion...

they had so much dowtime - and even problems with minimum speed when I submitted to TGP's...
they are a bargain-basement host... good for families and personal sites, but nothing business related..

eg: cheap price, and you get what you pay for...

just take a look at all the complaints in their forum
eitherway, anything comparable to dreamhost, but with better service, stability, and speed will run you about $40/mth for a VIRTUAL account...

if you're gonna spend more, I like
http://www.e5hosting.com/?ref_id=245

(note my ref link.. That's cause I moved from dreamhost to them about 7 months ago, and couldn't be happier )

LunarPages.com - $9.95/mo for virtual 400GB bandwidth, 3GB disk space, unlimited mysql/postgre, free domain name, + all the rest of the standard tools. Their dedicated plans are hella cheap as well. Outstanding customer service btw. And the term "you get what you pay for" surely doesn't apply here.

don't change your dns until you are sure your sites are up and running on your new host. wait a few days for dns to fully propagate before canceling your old host.

If you didn't have you refferal code, I could believe you are serious ....

400 gigs: 9.95/month so 2000 gigs 39.80/month ...

BTW, yes host are sometime out of servers ... in fact they are out of physical space in the datacenter they use, sometimes for a long time ...
My NJ datacenter was " sold out" for over 6 months, till a new building was put up ...

I've been happy with www.webair.com. My dedicated server is faster than my previous host by far. Support can be slow sometimes it seems...at least if you stick with email support, but when I've called them, they generally jumped right on it. That's cool.

Go with Webair.

Ive been with them for a few years now.. and they flat out take care of me there.

Whenever any issues arrived... they've always fixed me up on the spot. No waiting 6 to 24 hours. They get on it right then and there.

I wouldnt recommend getting a dedicated server from dreamhost. I have one and I'm extremely dissapointed. I noticed when I got alot of traffic that my pages would slow down tremendously. When I wrote them about it they wrote back saying there was some kind of clog in the input/output and that there was nothing they could do about it. Not much help and with the slow down it made getting any kind of sustained traffic impossible. People leave when pages load slow. I wont be using dreamhost again.

I went with webair. I found a deal at 1and1.com that gives like a terabyte of BW for $89 a month, but I wasn't sure of their adult content rules, even though their TOS says nothing really against it.

thanks to everyone for their help, and dreamhost was cool if you know your way around CURL.
