Anyone ever been scammed by Ebay? Post here!

I haven't joined the rest of the 209230482039842093840923 people who use ebay on a daily basis. I've never even bought something but I think I'm about to. Just want to make sure it's typically safe. Anything I should watch out for?

Thanks for helping a nooby.

Yes its pretty safe, your insure up to $1000 from paypal, if they don't send your product. If your buying something expensive, buy from people with high rating.

Use paypal, it is not 100% safe but better than paying without a middle man. And no paypal does not really insure the buy unless you go through specific steps, they try to resolve the issue by talking to both you and the seller, but if the other person does not have the money in their account then they just lock down the other person till they pay you and basically tell you sorry we did what we could do.

I lost a couple hundred once. The guy scammed hundreds of people totaling several hundred thousand dollars.

Was a powerseller. He went to school at Ohio State on a school visa. Was from Indonesia.

Sold bulk dvd shipments and designer purses. Items were supposed to ship in a week. Everyone paid, took off back home.

I still get letters from the FBI about it. There was a large forum about this guy. I still remember his name. Filias Utama.

Hopefully the Tsunami made him homeless and poor.

No way, I am way too sacred to end up spending money on something that doesn?t work or is a fake. I rather go out to the store and buy it there, with warranty and what not?

I had the exact same thing happen to me. The seller said his account was hacked. The so called hacker was smart enough to hack him but dumb enough to put his own bank details in there??? I didn't believe him so myself and about 8 others have handed it over to the authorities. I am still waiting to see what the outcome will be.

Question for newbie seller too

I've also never used Ebay before but am thinking of using it to try and sell some old stuff. If I accept payments by Paypal, is there anything I should look out for as a seller not to get ripped off? I heard that people can "chargeback" Paypal payments, but what if I withdraw the money to my bank account right away. Can Paypal take it back from my bank account if some scammer decides to chargeback the Paypal payment after receiving the goods?
