Rolling Stones Washed Up? Their Last U.S. Tour Most Successful OF ALL TIME

http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlf...20all% 20time

STONES' US TOUR MOST SUCCESSFUL OF ALL TIME

THE ROLLING STONES have smashed US touring records - their 2005 BIGGER BANG circuit of North America is the most successful US concert tour of all time, according to concert website Pollstar.

The BROWN SUGAR band sold $162million (GBP94 million) worth of tickets and played 42 performances to 1.2 million fans.

The Stones broke their own US tour record from 1994, when they made $121 million (GBP70.1 million). They earned $3.6 million (GBP2 million) per night from tour gigs.

U2 are the second most successful touring act of 2005, making $138.9 million (GBP80.1 million) with 78 shows in the US and Canada.

The Irish band, fronted by BONO, were previously thought to be the highest earners - because the Stones promoters refused to release financial information before the entire US leg of their tour had come to a close.

Canadian singer CELINE DION is in third place, having made $81.3 million (GBP47.1 million) from 155 dates at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Former BEATLE SIR PAUL McCARTNEY and THE EAGLES complete the top five, with ticket sales of $77.3 million (GBP44.8 million) and $76.8 million (GBP44.5 million) respectively.

The first time I saw them was 1971 or 1972, the last time was 2 or 3 years ago. I have seen them 4 or 5 times.

Every time was better than the last.

Exactly. Comparing touring acts by money skews in favor of those
with an older, wealthier fan base like the Stones, Celine Dion, the Eagles, and... getting there fast - U2

If popularity is to be compared, then raw ticket sales and attendance
are the better measure. Of course, that gets skewed by bands that have
some fans watch them 10-20 times a year.

The Stones really jacked the prices of their tickets one or two tours ago, When asked about $300.00 and up prices Jagger said "Our premium tickets have always cost that amount, even when the box offices sold them for $25.00 ... Now we will get the money not scalpers"

I have seen them 5 times ... GREATEST LIVE SHOWS EVER

Bleh. Always thought the stones were overrated. The latest single is pretty damn banal.. Actually it's a bad situation when stones ripoffs like the hives are writing better stones songs than they are themselves.

Maybe ask the millions that helped make Celine Dion #3 - they must be right too... oh.. and the millions that bought Crazy Frog.. etc etc.
That millions of people like them would be why i think they're overrated, no? Is it not a pre-requisite for my stated opinion that lots of people like them?
inquiring minds..

So millions of people liking a band make them overrated? It would seem if millions of people like them then they are rated right where they belong, same as Celine Dion. I don't listen to either but not sure how they can be overrated simply because of my opinion on them.

no, millions of people liking a band and going on about them when you don't hear anything special means you think they're overrated. It doesn't mean you're right.. it's just means thats your opinion.
How the fuck else can you think something is overrated but by a million people saying they're the bee's knee's when you wouldn't go to a concert if you were paid? Being overrated is precisely a matter of your opinion... it's not a function of anything else otherwise the term wouldn't exist.

I love the stones but the rawness of 65 to 68 can never be relived and no expensive tickets can make up for that. I payed to see Bob Dylan play to just 2000 people a few years ago and while it was good one had to wonder.
I was lucky enough to see ac/dc back when they where a Sydney pub band play the blue gum hotel in 78 and that was good wacked and drunk standing 2 feet of the stage with ac/dc at full noise. Fuck yeah that was awsome

true, i never cared for much of what they did after 72 but considering my age, 27 i had a chance to see them in their day. i never thought i would pay such prices for tickets but its either this or nothing. they aren't going to be around forever.
