HELP! Wordpress Permalinks Questions

I'm putting up a new blog (using WP 2.0) and trying to get my permalinks to show up as:

/%category%/%postname%/

However, when I use this, every permalink goes 404. I've set my .htaccess to writeable, so after i change my options, it should update the permalinks correctly.

Anyone with an idea why it's not doing what I want it to? At this point, I can only get it to work with the permalinks set as:

/%postname%/

and on a couple of my older blogs that are still running WP 1.5.2, I can get permalinks to work as:

/%category%/%post_id%/%postname%/

but I can't get the new WP 2.0 to work without the /%post_id%/ in the middle.

It's all driving me crazy and I'm willing to even pay for a little expert help if necessary.

I think I saw a thread on the wordpress support about this. There is an issue if you want to include category in the permalinks.

It could also be something else in your htaccess causing issues. I had to change some of my htaccess code when I changed to WP2.0.

I will try and have a look for the thread.

thanks Scotty. If you have a link to the thread, I'd appreciate it. It's driving me nuts. I searched on the WP boards, but I didn't find anything useful.

Hey, just been looking and I can't see it at the moment. I do know that %category% doesn't work properly with some versions of mod_rewrite in Apache versions before 2.

Something to check I guess.
