its what we call a "minority govt"....the winning party doesnt have a majority of the seats in parliament, so they will need the assistance of another party or two to get anything major done...

the last liberal govt was also a minority govt, thats why it didnt last very long..

The only way anything "Right wing" will get done is if the BQ supports them... and after the election run I don't think those two sides like each other much right now.

Now it looks like the cdn $ will drop a tad hopefully since it's not a majority goverment. Then again if they get rid of the GST it will probably strengthen (damn if you do, damn if you don't situation for those of us getting us checks)

taxes have nothing to do with the dollar. their platform may be viewed as one that causes deficits which would drop the dollar. their numbers don't add up and if it did go up unless changes were made to keep the country in the black the dollar would drop.

what economists don't factor in with a conservative is the "stupidity" factor

they are owned by corporations...and lets face it, harper will be a bush fuck buddy....even though he will make every attempt to make it look otherwise

Taxes are very much tied in with the dollar.....you lower taxes, the economy does better, interest rates can be raised....currency stays strong. Dropping taxes does not necessarily mean that there will be a deficit, in fact the opposite can be aruged, it keeps the economy strong, creates more jobs (more potential revenue), less social assistance needs, UI etc.

worked in the states...

the conservative platform doesn't add up so them lowering taxes could hurt unless they don't offset the revenue decrease. if they're gonna lower taxes it should be corporate incentives to increase good jobs and spur productivity growth which is lacking. that would help much more than creating a few more jobs at zellers when people have a few more loonies in their pocket
