Programmers

I have a pretty good grasp on HTML and javascript. I know C++, and VB.

I started teaching myself PHP/MySQL.

I want to learn Flash Actionscript, and a little CSS, XML to start doing some "AJAX".

Should I wait till I'm done with my 500 page PHP book...or should I go right into the other stuff while learning PHP.

Am I biting off more than I can chew?

if you're an idiot, i'd stick to moving back to "how to operate windows" if you're a genious, then learn php/mysql/actionscript/css/xml/ajax/ruby/jsp.

do what you feel is comfortable.. alot of the concepts that you learn in one will either apply to, or intertwine with other web technologies. if you feel that you're overwhelmed, then only focus on one language until you are comfortable.

AJAX is nothing special.
You basically just need one function to handle sending the XML request and a handling function that gets called when the response is returned. Both these functions can be found on the web as they're pretty cookie-cutter.

Other than that, it's just being able to parse over xml nodes in Javascript. (If you're using XML - you can just send a request and get straight text back and dump that to the browser if you wanted).

You are a complete idiot.

C++ is a low-level programming language. You need to set types to variables and return types of functions.

You also have pointers and smart pointers in c++. You also have templates, and operator overload.

If you think php looks like C++, you just do not know C++...

Oh, I also forgot the most important thing, php is a scripting language...not C++

What you need to learn depends on what your goals are, what kind of stuff you are planning to program, etc. For some applications ajax knowledge for example may be more important than knowing php very well... for others reverse may be true...

Your best bet is probably to find some quick online tutorials on each of the technologies... spend a few hours learning each, and then once you know the basics, start learning the details of whatever technology you think will be most useful to reach yoru goals...
