Screw all that body protection and shit, if you are going to play a ball game other than football (the real name for soccer) then play it like it is supposed to be played - full contact, no protection.

there's a slight difference between the size and strength of Football players and rugby players.

If your rugby players would like to go up against our football players without any protection, I am sure they would have no problem with that.

those big guys in American Football dont really cover much distance in a game do they?? its very stop start. Where as rugby players often play out a full 80minute game, there is a need to be big aswell as have stamina to keep up with the pace of the game.

I completely agree, but it isn't the same sport. When I'm playing football with my friends I don't wear pads and it's full contact. I'm not going to get hurt because we're all about the same size / strength.

Once you get to the pro level you basically have these huge players, some of which are heavily juiced on steroids, and if they hit you once and you weren't wearing padding they could possibly cripple you or kill you.

Rugby players are in great shape, its a tough sport, but if I was given an option to play Rugby where the players aren't that much bigger than I am or play football where I'm giving up 140lbs...yeah, I think I'd play Rugby.

I enjoy watching NFL and as an aussie I also enjoy rugby union, rugby league, aussie rules (the kangaroos and swans played a match in L.A. a cpl of weeks ago and it seems to be growing more popular there) and soccer is a game of skill and finesse, also power and speed helps too!

here's a pic of Jonah Lomu, he played for the All Blacks and he was almost 20 stone of solid muscle and cld run a 100 metres in just ver 10 seconds, good enough for oylimpic qualifying, pretty amazing for a man mountain. no wonder when the NFL talent scout came out here a few years ago and saw the aussie playing AFL, and rugby with no or little protection, they remarked that we wer hardcore crazy! lol

The toughest rougby players in the world compete every year to earn a spot as a punter in the NFL. Its the lowest paid spot on the team and very few every make it.

Then why show the pictures of him being "arm" tackled. In the NFL, you very seldom can arm tackle one of the running backs in the manner shown in your pictures.

The great thing about the protective clothing worn in American football is that is causes very serious injuries do to the way it is made. You are more likely to end up paralysed from the neck down because of the way the protective gear is made when you fall over than if you didnt have it on.

What a stupid comment. The rugby players who 'punt' are usually the skinny guys and a long, long way from being the 'toughest'. However, there isn't a lot of money in rugby compared to many sports. Football (soccer) is where the cash is at.

I agree with others in that you can't compare the sports for reasons stated. The athletes are not even comparable.

Basketball players are the best all around athletes in any sport.
Hitting a baseball is the single hardest thing to do in any sport.
Playing QB in the NFL is the single hardest position to play in any sport.
Football players require the greatest combination of speed, power and strength of any sport.

Football helmets are worn to prevent death, not broken teeth and broken noses.

A sport that keeps going is fine to watch for a little while, but it lacks the strategy necessary to keep your attention very long. That is the very reason that soccer failed in the USA and rugby is a sport limited to Sunday afternoons on college campuses. The common fan doesn't realize 1/100th of the strategy involved in a single NFL play.

When you understand the intracies of the passing tree complete with completmentary routes from all formations as well as the adjusted routes for each hot call and disguised defense, then you might find football more interesting. Its really a chess board played with the fastest, strongest and most powerfull pieces in the world.

Rugby is not even a close second.
