Not 1. TWO!

Failure to stop at a red light and speeding. I never got a tickets in my life, this is my first one. WTF do you do? Just go to court and say your not guilty? Hire a lawyer? Or just pay the fine?

You just pay the fines, and thats it.

Your insurance may change in future yes, but don't worry too much about it.

Everyone gets them ast some point.

You didn't kill anybody, so stop thinking about court...

just say guilty and ask for traffic school. Pay the fine, do your 8 hrs of traffic school and keep it off your record.

your definitely better off just paying the fine i doubt you will incur any surcharge from your insurance company unless you were doing double the speed limit or something like that...

Talk to the ADA before court starts on the day you should appear. Tell them you will plead no contest to speeding if they drop the red light violation explaining it was actually a yellow light in the first place. Then have the speeding charge you plead no contest to be allowed to go to traffic school.
Attend traffic school and walla no insurance raise and record remains intact. You get off with a fine.

was it one ticket with 2 violations, or two individual incidents?

I had a bike that I got 2 tickets in one day, so I took it apart so I could not ride it for a while.

Well, in CA that would be counted as one moving violation.

I ran a stop sign last month. I didn't want to go to court even though I felt I stopped. I just paid it.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS take tickets to Court. NEVER take the lazy American way out and write out a check and send it in.

It dosent matter if you are guilty or not. They want you to just write out a check. Thats how they make money. When people take tickets to Court, they dont make any money because they have to pay the cop, the judge, the ADA, the court staff, docket the case, etc, etc, etc. If everyone took thier tickets to Court, cops wouldnt be out doing what they do because there wouldnt be any cops on the street.

First off, there is a 50/50 chance that the cop will not show up for the trial and in that case BOTH tickets will be dismissed upon you motion (request) to the Court. That means no points on your lic, no insurance fees and no getting labeled a bad driver. I have had this happen on exactly half of the cases that I have taken to court.

Even if the cop does show up, the judge may still take your side of the issue and throw one or both of them out. Not likely, but possible. Sometimes the ADA and/or the judge will split the difference and dismiss one and find you guilty of the other. In this case, you cut your losses in half. Worst case, give the judge a sad story about how you're broke (if you really are, dont lie) and he will usually reduce the fine a little.

You may want to contact The National Motorists Association for assistance on this. Also, if you are a member, they would pay for your fines if you go to court and lose. They are at www.motorists.org.

You might also try joing the discussion forum at www.sitciot.com, they mostly deal with seatbelts but will sometimes help with other tickets too. They have members experinced with litigation of tickets and can help you with Court appearances.

Only a fool writes out checks and sends them in for traffic citations.

Wait are you basicly saying to waste tax payer money when you know you are wrong instead of just paying for what you did and know you did?

Like they said above, just go to court. I won't restate why, minusonebit explained it well.

My suggestion: DRESS NICE FOR COURT! The judge was happy to see that I took his courtroom seriously by being courteous and well-dressed, so much that he dismissed all points, and dropped my ticket down to $50 (from $300 for speeding). And all that I said was, "Your honor, I plead guilty." (this was my first offense in years, which helped as well)

I couldn't believe how people were dressed waiting for their turn in front of the judge! Fucking slobs! I swear that at least a 1/4 of them were wearing sweatpants. Then when it they were in front of the judge.. they were disrespectful. Amazing.

I really wish you wouldn?t have opened this door, now I am going to have to assault you with pro-freedom ideals?

When given the choice between "wasting taxpayer money" (my money to waste, besides) and getting ass-raped with an unconstitutional backdoor tax, you better bet your bottom dollar I'd rather waste my taxpayer money throwing a wrench in the works than I would politely submit my anus to the government for violation.

Traffic laws like seatbelt laws, registration requirements, license requirements and speed limits are unconstitutional. No one has a right to tell you how fast you can or cant drive. That?s a decision that you as a driver should be making based on conditions -- and when your decision causes someone else harm -- you should be responsible for that too.

You have the right (yes, its a right - it became a right when they started forcing us to pay for roads thru taxes) to drive in any manner you want so long as you don?t hurt anyone. Driving fast does not automatically mean you are a danger. It is possible to drive fast and still be operating your vehicle in a safe manner.

Arbitrary speed limits don?t take into consideration any factors like whether, day or night, road condition, traffic congestion, etc. The only time a cop should be able to ticket you for speed is if your operation of your vehicle endangered someone or actually caused something bad to happen - not because you drove faster than some arbitrary number that some dickwad in a three piece suit pulled out of his ass at a council meeting and got passed because a few whiney residents want to impose their will on everyone. A speed limit is just like Bush's pre-emptive war. It is a rush to judgment and imposes restrictions on people based on what may or may not happen in the future. Neither is constitutional and neither has any place in a free society.

Yes, its an extreme position that most people aren?t ready to accept yet. Its so much easier to live in a nanny state where the government wipes your ass for you and you never have to take responsibility for anything. But for people like me that know how to drive and have experience doing so, 25 MHP because some kids live on the street and their negligent parents don?t want to watch them is not appropriate.
