It's highly unlikely that NK and China would team up as all china wants to do right now is make some nice dough, but a ground war would be impossible to win. Nuclear war would eventually lead to MAD occurring for all parties involved. It would be a lose-lose situation for everyone... and it's not just like it would be U.S. vs. them. A few would join us, more would join them, it would be World War III. As Einstein said: "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.". WWIII would almost be just like a reset button in a video game. In fact probably the only continents to not get hit by nukes would be Africa and Antarctica. Heh... and maybe those crazy Australians

China can't move enough troops to control Tiawan and N.K. can't hit anything but the Sea of Japan, (maybe) Japan, (maybe) China, and (maybe) Russia with their SCUD missles.

I think the US would be OK fighting these two mighty forces in an actual military battle. I wouldn't recommend the US try to invade mainland China though.

China is actually an OK place - they have come a long way and have developed pretty good relationships globally, both on trade and other stuff.

It's highly doubtful come crunch time, that they would ally with NK on any attack - they are far more sane than any NK leadership and it is definately not in their interests to engage in any nuclear activity. (Is it in any countries interests? - Hell no)

this is true but china is a very competitive country and I almost certain that the end goal for them is to be the number 1 super power.

I think NK is ready to make an example out of the US and they know that with our current dployments all over the world now would be as good a time as ever to provoke us

I guess I am just trying to figure out what will all this mean 10 years from if NK has nukes and long range missles that can strike American soil how does that change our global outlook for the future??

who else are they aligned with, its all really surreal to me because I watch world politics closely and I have a really bad feeling about all this

Agreed.

But if they did it would be nearly impossible to CH/NK forces to ever set foot on mainland US soil. They'd have to stage in MX/CA (which won't happen) or attempt an amphibious landing which will leave a sea of Chinese bodies in the Pacific.

Simply -- neither have the hardware or the allies to worry me on the US mainland.

"Win" is a bit of a misnomer in terms of warfare. You really need to think more in terms of a military force reaching specific objectives, as "Win" is far too ambiguous. As an example, in this hypothetical war, is victory for the US declared by GWB standing on the steps of the Chinese Communist Party headquarters with an M16 and his dick in his hand, or is it defined by the Americans defending their home territory tooth and nail from land invasion by two well-armed aggressors?

Further than this, are we talking about this conflict occuring tomorrow, using the exact lineup of military capacity and distribution of forces as they are right now? Or is it a mythical situation where the Americans get the chance to bring all their forces home and start from scratch?

Ok, even though speculating on these sorts of things is futile, here goes: If the war happened tomorrow morning, the Yanks would surely be stretched defending the Pacific. The NKs have no working delivery platforms for nukes, and they're about the only ones you'd think were crazy enough to actually want to shoot one at anyone. The Chinese, as someone mentioned earlier, have a very large land force, but it is mostly geared for defence, and mobilizing it for a land invasion would present a significant challenge. The Americans don't have the land forces to effectively fight in two theatres (Iraq AND the eastern Pacific), and so would have to pick one and withdraw from the other, or draft (which would only work should the Chinese be the aggressors - a little something to stir up some patriotic spirit).

Any attempted invasion by either side on to the other's soverign territory would be devestating in terms of life lost, and if it was the aggressor in the conflict doing the invading, so vastly condemned bythe international community that it seems quite fuckin' retarded to even contemplate it happening. Remember, each of these nations needs to trade with the rest of the world after the conflict, and the chinese aren't going to be selling too many TVs to the Brits when they're stomping over the crushed skulls of 200 million dead American citizens.

All of this, of course, is presuming that this war occured in a political vacuum. What is far, far more likely is that every nation on the planet would be polarized in to action overnight, at which point, well, what happens is anyone's guess. I'm putting money down on We're All Fucked.

In all reality, if it ACTUALLY came to a US / Cino armed conflict? They'd shoot a few missiles at each other, there'd be a lot of aggressive rhetoric, and then it'd all get sorted out by the diplomats and politicians. The chances of the world's two superpowers really going balls out for each other, particularly in this day and age of the Internet and global communities just seems ridiculous.

There is no hope in hell of NK actually launching a nuclear device on either the US, Japan or elsewhere without suffering major shit. (OK.. we may try to avoid killing NK people, but there is no way the military or the regime will exist)

Unless Kim Jong wants to go on a suicide mission (who knows, that could be possible depending on his mental health ) - he is going nowhere.

China and Russia may be more supportive of North Korea at this stage and where the US admin have decided they are a target, but smell that will change drastically if NK initiates any nuclear assault on any country.

There is a problem tho which needs a damage limitation stuffed on it and some "relationship" with North Korea. South Korea still seems to want to talk and not have action taken. They actually had a much improved relationship with NK until Young Georgie opened his mouth - can't remember the SK comments, but generally SK said at the time that pretty much damaged the stability of the peninsula.

Hell knows, but prob the last thing that is needed is anymore threats against them and let this cool off. They will obviously be under pressure from now to cool it. It's a pity it got to this stage - not just re NK, but Iran blah - the less nuke shit lying around this planet the better.

True what you say about stepping "out of this world" and having a look inwards There is loads of constructive stuff that could be done to vastly reduce tensions - but.. well.. that's a lot of work and far harder than launching nukes.

PS.. Dunno about China... yes.. probably is their "aim", but the competition is heavy on that. There is a very major shift in geo-economics going on and doubt any country can stop that - even China. Again... China is definately far less "aggressive" than it was and has a good economic outlook for the future - probably the best in the world right now - and working hard on it, but having "wars" is sure not economic sense - it just sets them back decades.

PPS.. Oddly.. nothing to do with the thread, but China actually offered to buy the "air" above a land area we own They are trying to buy up "oxygen points" to counter shit they are spewing into the atmosphere by manufacturing processes. (Basically means they dump some money on us each year). Never bothered doing a deal since we have no plans that will affect the oxygen emissions from there anyways, but shows they are trying

Who would win a war between China and the USA? US air and naval power would give the Chinese a bloody nose but trying to land troops on the ground in China would make Vietnam look like a playground scrap. Ultimately, the US would have to go home, so a win for China.

Everyone needs to watch a little less news because they're basically licking their chops over NK shooting off some worthless missles. Mainstream news, internet news, etc, is basically spinning this shit 24/7 for ratings and they're playing on everyone's fear by making this like it's an immediate problem.

NK won't do shit - basically they got their toy rockets to get some attention, maybe make some new fucking agreements, maybe buy Kim Jong-Ill a new tinker toy or two, and the threat will be over.

China - won't do shit anytime soon. They're heavily invested in the U.S. and they'll become the defacto world power in around 20 years. They're on a roll right now (good place to invest actually ) and they're not going to let an unneccessary war ruin the wave of success they're currently enjoying.

U.S. - Won't do nuttin' - the situation doesn't call for any action. All it calls is buying Kim Jong-Ill some tinker toys. That's all. Give the kid some toys and make him feel important, and he'll go away.

Iran is a different situation altogether, but I'd like to see the U.S. just let Israel take care of them...which they could do easily.

Chine would never side with NK. They aren't interested in NK, they are interested in global trade and their economy. There would be no war with China and the US. It's too difficult to put troops down in either country.
