HOLY CRAP "the sequel" Two planes JUST miss eachother at LAX again!!

Some of you might remember this thread: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=599430 that I posted NOT LONG AGO...

Well, about an hour ago I witnessed it again, just now with two different airlines! I THINK one was US Airways (blue colour) and the other one I am not sure - it went too fast.

I went to my bank, like I often do, and as I exit my car I see these two planes almost on top of eachother going in for landing at the same time at the same runway - the north one. This time they did in fact land as I tried to take a picture of it (dropped everything else I had in my hand and tried to boot up my camera phone and just missed it - got a nice pic of the flightpath without the damn planes...)

So this is one of a few things -
1. It is a message to me not to land at LAX ever
2. Tell my buddys who has an office almost underneith the flightpath to move (which I already told them)
3. It WILL say bang at LAX soon.

The fact that I have seen this twice in super short time is just too strange.

If you want to check it out yourself, go here: http://www4.passur.com/lax.html and put in the time TODAY (8th. of Aug. at 16.09 and watch it. Freaky.)

Anyways, off to ponder.

esp now that they've shut down one of the runways to accommodate the new airbus.

I hear a lot of not good stuff from LAX lately...

You should have seen me when I realized what was happening AGAIN - I dropped everything I had in my hands (checks, keys, some paperwork) and tried frantically to get my camera phone up and ready to take pictures.... then the damn planes were landing... All I could do was to wait for a bang which thank godness didnt come.

It is not unusual at all for aircraft on landing to be spaced less than 3 miles apart. the tricky part is for the second aircraft to land beyond the touchdown point of the first aircraft to avoid getting tossed by wake turbulence. I fly a small airplane into a busy airport and on clear days you'll have 747's cutting in from the side and landing right in front of you at less than 2 miles.

Nothing beats the speed of a Nikon F5 35mm. You should get one. It's 35mm, but for emergencies, it's fast as fuck. And now with processors putting your images on disk it makes it worth it.

I sell Nikon F5 CHEAP~

The ILS at LAX has been busted for two days, so all incoming flights are being routed to land from the West. Apparently visibility is better from the Pacific.

But yes, until the ILS is restored, I'd be a little nervous about landing there, too.

The reason you dont see this is because you probably know that LAX has 4 runways. 2 on the north side and 2 on the south side. It may look like one is on top of the other but they are in fact landing on 2 seperate runways.

Few years back when I flew into SF I noticed a plane right next to us and almost shit myself. The flight attendant looked over and said "No were alright, there are 2 parallel runways".

Fuck what a day for news, also in the news today: A ship carrying red paint and a ship carrying black paint crashed into each other. The crew was marooned.

Please do!

PS. For the ones of you that think the two runways on the north side are supposed to be both used for LANDING you are seriously wrong. And I was right underneath the damn path and know what I saw both times.

Then again, ignorance is a bliss

I work in Aviation for a living, know ATC like the back of my hand. Those plane landed on close, but parallel runways. They do this all of the time if the weather is good enough. If you watch the replay, you will notice that neither aircraft goes around which means that:

a) they both landed at the same time
b) being as there was no news of a plane crash, they didn't land on top of each other.

Watch the video again, planes are departing from all 4 runways. A few minutes later (at about 1613) after they both land, you will se a plane come in from the southeast and land on the same south runway.

Here is a tid-bit for LAX too...

Normal Operations: During Normal Operations, LAX uses the following runway configuration --

25L: ILS and visual approaches
25R: departures (visual approaches, if coordinated with tower)

24L: departures (visual approaches, if coordinated with tower)
24R: ILS and visual approaches

The technique is called "Simultaneous Parallel ILS Approaches." This is the rule for LAX:
"technically simultaneous parallel ILS approaches are ONLY authorized when the final approach monitor, positions are manned. For the purposes of VATSIM, we always consider these two positions manned, even if they are not."
