5 years after 9/11 You feel any SAFER at all?????

.........Not at all....

Airport Security is a joke.....

The bridges n tunnels here in NY the security you got there is a joke... 99 percent of the time you will see cops in groups of 3 chit chatting and not even looking at the cars , they only mess with vans n trucks...

Thoughts?

Contrary to what you see on TV, terrorism is a virtual zero threat to the average American. Did you know that in 2001 there were 17,500 people who died in DUI related car accidents?

Since the start of 2001 we are nearing 100,000 DUI deaths, yet we as a country obsess over the 3,000 deaths on 9-11. Turn on the cable news and within 10 minutes you'll most likely get a terror story. You'd have to watch for days (maybe even weeks) before you get a DUI story.

Point is, there is a very long list of more pressing issues facing the country from a human life perspective than terrorism. That would actually still be the case even if there were one 9-11 a year.

I'd say about 90% of anything that's been done has just been token jestures to make us think our gov't is on top of things..

The same with running into afghanistan acting like we were gonna get Bin Bushbuddy.. All for show.. and to get us set up for Iraq..

On my last trip to Miami I got caught with a Zippo in Buenos Aires. I had to sell it to some guy at a shop for a third of the price. Here's how it went down:

Security: Did you pack your bags?
Me: Yes
S: Did anyone give you a package to carry?
Me: No
S: Do you have a lighter with you?
Me: Yes
S: You can't take that on board and there's no time to check it
Me: But the duty free shop sells lighters. What if I bought it there?
S: ???

So I bought a lighter in Miami and on the way back it was like

Security: Did you pack your bags?
Me: Yes
S: Did anyone give you a package to carry?
Me: No
S: Do you have a lighter with you?
Me: No.

I was checked at MIA twice and even took out the lighter to pass it through the X ray machine.

Also, I bought a scanner that could tune in to aeronautical frequencies and I was carrying it in my backpack. Security didn't even bother to ask me what I had it for. It might as well be a transmitter to create chaos on board or something.

The story is actually longer, but I'm lazy right now and it would probably bore you to death.

Bottom line: No matter how much you spend in airport security, it just will not cut it. The only things keeping people safe, or so the media wants to make us think, are intelligence agencies.

What a dumb ass world.

I feel neither more or less safe prior to 9-11 than I do now. Black people still a big as threat as ever; fuck terrorism, dying in terrorist-related deaths is almost zilch as stated above. Getting mugged and/or killed by a negroid though? jesus christ! It?s frightening to think of how much damage (economically) black people do every single year in America. It?s all because they constantly listen to the rap music which causes the brain damage.

I'm considering starting a website called SecuritySucks.com (not up yet) all about how security sucks ... intended for people to vent and learn more about the absurdities of "security" these days ... welcome thoughts?

It's crazy what's happening these days ... bottled water is no longer permitted on most commercial flights and yet portable laptop computers containing powerful lithium-ion battery packs, which have been involved in several airline incidents, including fires on board...

And yet bottled water is what's banned ... to be clear, I feel laptop computers should continued to be allowed, but such devices present more of a real threat than bottled water, etc.

At the rate things are going, one shouldn't be surprised if in a few years all passengers will be required to remove all their clothes and change into TSA issued disposable outfits at the security checkpoint for flight.

You really think they want you to feel safer? Really?

Without fear, they'll have no power.

I have never not felt safe. However, I felt violated on 9/11.

More people are choosing to drive instead of fly whenever they can to avoid the security / airport hassles ... as a result, statistically speaking, Americans, as a group, are less safe than before.

It's much like how the U.S. public schools have become more akin to minimum security prisons in recent years despite the fact that school violence had been decreasing in recent years prior to Columbine...

And while on that, Columbine at the time of the shootings in 1999, already had many of the security measures (cameras, security guards, limited access, etc) in place that other public schools have since instituted in the belief they will prevent such violence ...

But such measures didn't work for Columbine ... why would they work any better elsewhere...

About all the cameras installed at Columbine accomplished was to immortalize the killers, but I digress.

Anyways, throwing technology at potential security risks makes people feel good, but often does little alone to truly improve security...

A more effective approach is teaching people the proper way to behave; right / wrong, etc ... but that takes much time and doesn't fit into nice 30 second soundbites on the TV ... so politicians use the time-proven F.U.D. approach and, predictably, much of the populous falls for it and submits to whatever the government wants without question.

Ron
