Well I would if I really wanted to get rid of my domain. And probably if I thought the person was serious enough and who it is.

I laugh.

When that's happened, they typically come out of the gate wanting me to name MY price. Not them naming theirs. This alone shows me their are either not real serious, or are some new jack thinking he's a pimphand in the business and is going to get me to low ball a domain so they can buy it. Then run to GFY for their praise on being the pimphand.

In every instance they do not name the price.

haha, you all kill me.

Its call Negotiation 101.

I never name the first price on anything. If I name the first price, you arent gonna like it. For a domain, my starting price will always be $10. no matter what domain or value.

Usually, when I go to buy a car, the conversation goes like this:

Me: Thats a nice car you have there, how much you want for it?
Them: Oh, I dont know, how much are you offering?
Me: I dont know what its worth, tell me what you'd take. Surely you have some idea of what you'd like to get out of it.
Them: Nah, you name the first price.
Me: $50.
Them: Fuck that shit.
Me: You wanted me to name a price so I did. If $50 isnt enough for you, you obviously have some idea of what you think its worth, so lets hear it.
Them: Oh, well, I was thinking $1500.
Me: But it needs... Im thinking $1100.
Them: Yeah, but its got a good... would you go $1400?
Me: Aww, changing that... is gonna be alot of work, I really cant go any higher than $1200...
Them: Well, I cant let it go for that because...
Me: Alright, well, it does have a good... $1250 is the best I can do. I've got bills too...
Them: Alright, give me the cash.

And if you dont know what your item is worth, then you should sell it to me for $10 for being clueless. You're hoping I'll come out of the gate with a price too high for the item. I wont, my price will ALWAYS be too low.

Well that is one way to go about it that will work for some people. You have the idea that everyone has a price, so you bring out the weak jedi mind trick or reindeer games to test the water.

But if someone is plugging away happy as a clam not actively selling something, and you offer to buy it. Then most people will either say what are you offering to see if you are a serious player with cash. Or. give you some high number to get the point across it's not for sale.

Example..

You have a nicely designed TGP.
Thanks
You have a lot of traffic.
Yes. 500,000k daily
Wow. Well how much you selling it for?

... at this some people are thinking, "it's not for sale BUT I'll see if this person's serious or not. Then they come back with that lame ass limp wrist pimphand $10 type shit, give me a ballpark (as described above), and you know that they are not serious most of the time.

Could be. But generally they fuck off after that part of the convo, and you continue about your business.

Here?s an interesting, somewhat relevant story:

A number of years ago I used to install pool/billiards tables for usually rich clients (I?d buy broken down ones on the cheap, redo them, sell them at a premium and make a shitload). This one doctor comes in and sees this really nice table that I?m working on (was an older brunswick). I?ve been restoring this particular thing for on and off about a month and was just about completely done with the unit.

The doctor really loved this table and just had to have it but he did not like the color green. I had already changed the felt and I started to cringe at this point as this model was a pain in the ass to skin. Anyways, he just had to have it in red. He asked how much would it cost for me to do it. At this point I was really pissed off because I just did not want to re-skin the damn thing, so I told him 3000 bucks. Though the work required is tedious and difficult, it certainly wasn?t nearly 3k bucks hard.

I dunno if it was because he was in love with it or because he really didn?t have a clue on how much these things cost. Anyways the fucker said ?OK!? without hesitation. I couldn?t believe my ears, sweet Jesus that was an easy paycheck. A week later or so I delivered the table with its nice little red felt and the fucker paid me an additional $200 bucks for delivering it so timely and doing such a marvelous job on it. What he didn?t know is it was a rush job and probably wouldn?t have lasted a year of use? lmao.

Moral of this story? Those who are clueless to what things cost, especially those with fat wallets, are especially easy to take advantage of. Also don?t trust notabook with pool tables.
