Then what's the problem. It's inflation. Pay a shit load in the summer and almost nothing in the winter. It all balances itself out.

i don't know what math you are doing, but having a few $50 months does not balance out a bunch of $1000 months

electric is overpriced everywhere, and I have to imagine that we have companies like Enron to thank for that somewhere along the line

Hell, our electric is cheap, we have a 2200sq ft house and we are paying over $300 a month....and we have some of the cheaper electric in the country

Thats BS, I have Southern California Edison and my 4 bedroom home bill is allways under $100. I would like to see more info on that. Did the meter reader just get a bad read?

Clearly, he's fabricating his bill, then!

Or maybe he doesn't eat Mac and Cheese made with the power of the SUN every night for dinner.

I have just about everything ?streamlined? you can imagine when it comes to energy concerns, all bulbs are FLCs (15-23 watts I think, or around 60-90 watt Incandescent equivalents), all fairly energy efficient appliances, everything cut off when I?m not using it, etc. It wasn?t really high bills that pissed me off? it was the fact that you are not really told up front about how much these devices are going to cost you in the long run. The FLC bulbs paid for themselves in a month (literally, after one month of using them they were saving me money), and on average save around $100-120 annually (yeah, chickenscratch, but after I got done replacing most energy hogs it ended up being a few thousand annually).

I bought a neat little gadget called Kill-A-Watt to help me determine energy gulpers. Some of them I owned were simply retarded on how inefficient they were. Fridge was taking around 1,200w, I bought one almost in half. One of the most surprising things to me was the fucking coffee maker, it used almost 1000 fucking watts (granted it?s not on much so it?s not hurting that bad). Then the stupid toaster, it took more watts than the coffee maker! Anyways, after I replaced a little of this and a little of that (having to pay around $2000 total in newer more efficient appliances), the annual savings are roughly $2500-$3000 bucks. So after the first year, everything I had to buy paid for itself lol.

I love Kill-A-Watt. I also hate it because the first thing I do now when I buy anything is hook it up through Kill-A-Watt to see how much it?s costing me, other than the initial cost. I still have to replace a few things around the house, namely old CRT monitors. Unfortunately it?s almost time to upgrade my computer which is going to suck on power (the new fucking graphics cards coming out soon eat something like 300 watts by themselves, more than my entire computer consumes atm). Eh, oh fucking well.

Oh yeah: KILL-A-WATT RULES.

If the Current Charges are $1233. and the Total charges are $1570 then last month bill was for $337 and not paid. So I don't get it.

well, i never said we didn't hog electricity...haha

I guess we could get it down cheaper if I didn't leave computers, tv and lights on 24/7, but we keep such wierd hours and shit

we tried those energy saving bulbs in our lights, but they made my wifes complexion look wierd and she didn't like them, so we are back to the basic natural light bulbs..haha

That?s the only thing I dislike about FL?s, even if you buy them all at the same time and same brand, they all seem to have a slightly different color to them. I eventually got them all looking right (I ordered around two hundred of them in a lot deal, mainly for family and friends so they could use them). Took me going through around thirty of them to get all the bulbs the right color for me.

Those are peak usage.. it doesn't actually use 300w all the time..

I have a 400w PS in my computer, with one a 7900GT card, the kind that needs its own power etc..

its really not that bad. all my power usage is from my a/c..

even when you buy those though, they are never consistantly the same color

if we could find a brand that was totally consistant color in all the bulbs, we would give it a go again

yeah, computers use WAY less electricity that what people think, and unless you are constantly gaming or rendering, they don't use the peak wattage of the power supply

something fun everyone should do, get one of those little devices you plug into the wall and then run your electronics through it....so you can see how much power each device uses

lmao, that's basically what my whole post was about. I got Kill-A-Watt ages ago and it changed the way I look at anything I buy, price goes *way* beyond the initial buying price.
