As far as I know, noise/sounds are 'waves' of the air...You can silence an area, BUT you have to create a wave in the opposite direction.(so there's no no more wave, but a 'line')

But the sound has to be the same for 'beamers' since, they can not simple silence every new sound...

They are working on this in the airplane industry for a long time already. The noise of an engine is almost the same wave everytime..

But as far as I know, this is far from new

Certainly not new, but the possibilities are only limited by poor imagination, and in the hands of some crazy fucks could be really fuck'd up!
