Well not so much a fuck up in terms of indexing their own index, but rather allowing someone to spam their domain hosted pages.

Notebook spam isn't a big deal for them at the moment. There are only 10,000 public pages indexed. When it does become a problem they will no doubt do something like move notebooks to a separate tab like most blogs were and/or decrease their rankings in the main search results.
