Court OKs random drug tests for students

If kids wanna participate in extracirricular activites, there will now be a random drug test. Talk about invasion. Shit, there should be a random drug test for the teachers. When I was in high school, almost every dam teacher was a tweeker.

There has been a lot of talk lately about privacy and "big brother" ... and I know it's a bad thing to give a government or a school so much power but some part of me is actually for it.

I mean, the only people who this will effect are those that are guilty of something. Otherwise it's just a minor inconvenience.

This is crazy. There's plenty of reasons to argue this law but this is not one of them. The only thing they are "giving up" is there ability to get high before football practice

It's not like they are tying video cameras to their backs.

Don't you think it should be the same for the coaches?

I know what you are saying... that this is just the first step and if we allow this then.... yada yada yada...

but this is the same logic that extremists use when they talk about how video games are the start to a violent life for our kids. Or that potheads are destined to become strung out crack heads.

It just doesn't hold water for me... (like a leaky waterjug) ...cuz I have enough confidence in the human race to believe that we wouldn't allow it to get to that point.

BTW - I'm really high right now so my opinion on this could change at any moment... but you'd have to be pretty convincing

The end result with be more drug usage. Kids who would never have though of using drugs won't want to be subject to urine samples, and will instead opt out of extra-carricular activities. Boredom will ensue, drug usage will take hold.

Drugs arent the healthiest of things to be put into our bodies, especially kids... remember some of these kids are going to be working at our retirment homes and running our country, and I dont think I want my care worker to be having acid flashbacks while he/she is cleaning my stank ass.
I say its all good for them to do random drug tests

Random strip searches of the general population would also be a minor inconvenience that would only effect those that are guilty.

get it yet?

It breaks the 4th amendment.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

You're comparing a drug test to random strip searches !?!?!
This is exactly the kind of argument that makes me for something like this drug testing issue.

Common sense is enough for me to know that would never happen.

If you had just posted the ammendment I would have been a little bit more on the side of everyone else here, but this exaggerated example is not going to convince me.

This is just a small step to help protect our kids. It is not pulling people off the streets to analy probe them.

its not a stretch to say you're lack of understanding of our rights makes you *for* just about anything.

yet common sense doesn't tell you that *searching* whats in someone's system without cause is wrong. typical.

this exaggerated example was used so the slower kids would be able to understand.

typical liberal government clap trap.
I'll take all the steps necissary to protect my kids. thanks anyway.

My system is 100% free of any type of drugs. That said, I would never submit to any such random test. The 4th amendment protects me from them.
It protects my kids too. If you feel you can't protect your kids without this intrusion from the government. perhaps you should consider adoption.

I was just making a joke. Yesterday all the right wingers were yelling "activist left wing judges" about the pledge thing. Today it's reversed. I agree that a stupid ruling is stupid no matter who makes it. There are plenty of fuck ups in our government on both sides.

what's the problem with getting tested if you don't have anything to worry about. these kids aren't being violated. they go to a government school, they'll be subjected to government crap. they took drug dogs around my highschool. i always had to park in the street so my car would get passed over. small inconvenience. if kids want to play sports, take a season off from smoking pot. "alcohol is a drug", you sound like my freakin mom. yes, alcohol is a drug, but it's only illegal if you're under 21. did anyone hear about the school dance incident? teachers were stoping girls as they walked in, made them lift their dress/skirts(in front of male teachers and students) to show they weren't wearing a thong. some teachers even checked for bras. these kids were pretty young too. that's where i see a problem. whoever said it is right, test the teachers if you're going to test the students.

who said i'm just a kid????

rights for those under 18 are different than those 18 and older. i've driven on highways and gone through random road blocks. my car actually did get picked out and we all had to get out while the dogs went through the car and all our shit. plus, this isn't just randomly grabbing a student out of class and testing them. these are students that choose to participate in extra activities. they're putting themselves in a postition to be looked at more closely. i'm not saying i agree with it.

I agree, I think you should be searched every time you leave your house to make sure you don't have any drugs. drugs are bad so how about you volunteer to be searched?

I never say no to a drink at the bar.

I don't see any smilies in your post so I assume you are serious.
If so, I have to ask how old are you..??? cuz that is one of the Craziest theories I have ever heard. It sounds like something my grandmother would come up with.
Captain P, I'm 26, and I'm serious. Your grandmother knows from experience, and so do I.

For the record, I do not use or condone the use of illegal drugs.

exactly.

i don't care about this shit because i don't do anything that violates it. i take piss tests without a problem.

however there are some people (who don't do anything bad themselves..) who go ballastic - "i'm not pissing in a fucking cup for some company" - and these people don't do bad shit anyway. it's fucking dumb. i tell them "ok.. then someone else will get a job because of your stubborn beliefs"

at the same time, i think most the tests are pointless, since the people stay clean for their month before they're hired, and at big companies (i work for a fortune 500 tech company..) that's the only time you're tested.

however, random testing might help, but i personally think the company should judge based on work performance, not extra-cirricular activities.

i just hate it when some people get all up in arms about pissing in a cup. i mean a job is a job, if you don't do drugs, then piss in the cup, and if you do, the job is probably worthwhile to have so wait out the month before so you can get the job (and thus buy copious amounts of drugs with your newfound paycheck.)
