What to do about a dry scalp?

It's dry as hell and it causes dandruff which highly pisses me off because i can't wear black.

What to about it? I tried everything. Washing my hair daily, washing my hair weekly, every shampoo thats out there but nothing works.

And why is it dry only where there's hair? My face (or any place on my body) has no problem with dryness.

Use "Head and Shoulders", then when people say "I didn't know you had dandruff." you can smugly reply "I don't!"...

Sorry, but I have no real knowledge, only what the adverts tell me!

Not necessarily. Dandruff is nothing more than the sloughing of skin or regeneration of new skin cells. In your case, the regeneration of new cells is happening at a faster rate then the average. Causes typically can be attributed to a variety of things like anxiety, stress, lack of vitamin B, etc...if you were to shave your head, you can use various topical ointments to reduce the regeneration of new skin cells. There are various types of skin cells throughout your body. The skin on your head is not the same on your hand for example. The same goes for hair. Body hair, facial hair and the hair on your head are all different react different.

Ftom my experience, if nothing helped you - the reason is hormones. Take some herbals that balance the level of all hormones. Or check the level.
Anyway, you shouldn't wash your head often - once a week better and use special shampoo. May be even for babies - Johnsons is the best.

my hairdresser suggested brushing the scalp vigorously and often when it is dry. It stimulates oil production in the scalp.

Yes, T-Gel is best for dandruff. Or any dandruff shampoo that contains tar. It doesn't smell pretty but it works great

I always keep a bottle of baby shampoo, and I use it instead of regular about every third hair wash. Seems to be good.

i have absolutely horrible scalp psoriasis.. it is BAD..

no shampoos help it.. only a solution that is available by prescription called fluocinoline acetonide 0.01%.. it is also available in a brand name called derma-smooth scalp oil but that is like $100+ dollars.. so i had the doc write for the generic chemical name to save lots of money (the generic doesn't convert if brand name is written so you must have it written specifically for the generic to get the generic).

anyways, i swear by this stuff. i love it. i just got it again after years of going without, and boy does my scalp thank me.

good luck whatever you do!

It's dermatitis, try washing with a dandruff shampoo daily instead of your regular shampoo. Basically your skin doesn't produce oil so it dries out. I'm sure a dermatologist could prescribe something that will keep it in check but to the best of my knowledge there isn't any cure. Try a zinc shampoo.

Ordinary anti-dandruff shampoos are not so effective at all. You may try Neutrogena T-Gel for good results.

Dandruff shampoos are alot more harsh than regular shampoos.. so it'll totally wash the flakes off real good but it dries your scalp out worse so it will keep coming back. Nice trick though to keep repeat buyers.

Buy some tea tree oil and rub it into your scalp real good right before bedtime. Then wash it out in the morning cuz it'll make your hair greasy. It smells good and it'll work. If you get actual spots where it's worse and doesn't go away, go to the doctor. That's the only way to cure it.

When i was surfing, i use to have that problem badly. Sitting on my surfboard under the California sun all day long took it's toll on my scalp in a big way.

I tried everything back then and the ONLY thing that worked for me was Nizoral.
That shit is the miracle soap.

It took away flakes and all the itching. They say you only need it twice a week. But i used it like 3-4 times a week at first.

Swear to god, after the first week i didn't have any flakes or itching. But i still continued to use for a month just to make double sure it wouldn't come back.

And it's not like you have continue using it. You use it till your scalp is better then just put the bottle away. When i was surfing, 1 bottle would last me all winter and even part of summer. Awesome stuff.

You need something to moisturize your scalp. Pantene Fortifying cream. Looks like a tube of gel instead of a shampoo bottle. Wash your hair with your normal shampoo, then put a decent amount of the pantene product in, massage your scalp and leave it in for about 10 minutes. 3 times a week and your dandruff will be gone
