I don't do any business with Zango, I just don't like people jumping the gun and pointing fingers at the companies listed above. I think it's like guilty by association.

DH, man, you've really let me down on this one. I'm hoping you just didn't take the time out to read what's going on here. Please tell me that's the case...otherwise I can't help but lose the high level of respect I have for you.

I am going to read the thread again, I read it just briefly before (just after dinner and I had a few beers LOL)

I thought Will76 was outing companies that accept zango traffic?

Will read again

Please let me know if you see anybody targeting Duke Dollars' sites with this scumware. I'll gladly have a look and bring the hammer down. This practice only hurts our company and our honest affiliates. Looking through our backend however, we have absolutely no signs of this practice targeting us.

You know MN's stance on this Will76, as does Missy, I've spent quite a bit of time in the past few months chasing and getting these guys shut down.

Good work on starting the most important threads I've seen for some time..

It may well be that some programs are not aware of this stuff, so I would be wary of judging them too quickly. Let them know and Im sure they will act

Don't see why this would be hard to "fix"... topbucks locks the cookie for a short period of time to prevent that sort of hijacking.
Exaclty, all they see is an account that is making them a lot of money. Probably a top 10 affiliate for them. I think they just have a hard time banning someone who they *think* is making them a lot of money. When in reality, if they did ban that person their bottom line would be the same or better.... those signups would be redistributed to their other affiliates and they would make more of their own signups. But, they don't understand this and can't bring themselves to banning one of those high producing accounts.

If I am wrong, and I am missing something here, then please those of you who allow spyware signups, please come explain to me how I am wrong.

DH

I think what I am saying here is hard to miss...

Even in the thread title is ask YES or NO ? I am not pointing fingers at anyone. I am asking these companies to give us their officail stand on this. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you were drinking too hard and missed that, but I thought it was pretty black and white what I am asking here.

I am also posting links of affiliate programs who have affiliates using spyware to let them know about it. I don't need to point fingers, their action or lack of action once notified of this, speaks louder then any accusation i could make.

You have a very good understanding of how this works. I think it's because you've seen it with your own eyes. Most people take a long time to grasp this concept but the day they see it in action in front of them, the light almost always comes on.

In mainstream, many of these scums have been rewarded with awards and are claimed to be top affiliates. It makes me (and many others!) sick!

In any affiliate program, top affiliates and those who start producing out of nowhere should always be monitored. A clean affiliate today can be a dirty affiliate tomorrow. With day targeting, they could use spyware sporadically to advertise. Unless you monitor those accounts regularly, they can be hard to catch.

Most affiliates are legitimate and many know how to convert their traffic very well. But a brand new affiliate doesn't.

There are many advertising agencies out there that will place ads for you. Unless you ask them WHERE and HOW your money will be spent, your ad could very well be shown in several adware programs without your knowledge. Then you get caught, and end up with a frozen account and lost commissions. And rightly so. Wasn't entirely your fault, but the sales were not entirely yours either. Since it's nearly impossible to know which sales were legit and which ones were not, you lose it all. It's OUR job to KNOW where our advertising comes from. Some have learned the hard way.

Missie

Didn't seem to get anything for your sites

Now here is another 'new' one concerning webcams.com

I visited webcams.com via a link from Youho.com.
The page loaded up and then a webcams.com join page loaded up OVER the TOP of the window.
YouHo.com didn't get credit, but "&x_reseller=dnathan" did

I wonder if there are some big advertising companies here that sell "_____ traffic" that are filtering spyware traffic into it so they can sell more hits.

I have to assume they are doing their tracking serverside. If you click a join link from -your- affiliate linking page, it doesn't show who the affiliate is until after you fill out and submit the join form.

If you do business with Zango or companies that even work with others that use scum ware, then you are guilty by association. It isn't like these big sponsors don't know about it. These new spam style companies contact the sponsors for better deals and to be sure the accounts get rolled over and not closed.

As I said, no worries.. the hammer is coming down.

That's true to a certain extent. However, the key still remains education of sponsors about spyware.

Most do NOT understand how it works. If spyware didn't steal sales from others, including the sponsor's direct sales from type-ins, ppc, or natural SERPS, they wouldn't be top performers. We all lose, including sponsors.

What sponsors need is a good reality check. When they see that THEY are getting ripped by their "top affiliates", they wake up!

Spyware is a horrible thing and it does in fact affect our industry.

I won't name names, but I deal with a lot of companies and I once helped a company that was having issues with spyware. It turned out that Kazaa Lite was installing spyware and would change the affiliate link code.

If anyone finds any problems with ICS properties, please feel free to let me know.

Will76 - I'll just re-iterate it here for good measure - Topbucks doesn't accept it - won't allow it and it's against our TOS.

Is it ok with you that your name is being bid on, on some spyware site which is causing you and your affiliated to be fucked out of a lot of money.

if you are an affiliate of these companies you need to email them and voice your concern. it is costing you money.

Makes me laugh when I see big promotions by these companies. I wonder how much spyscums will make at the expense of the honest affiliates.

Hummmm.... I'd be curious to know how many of those ads are run by the sponsors themselves directly stealing from their own affiliate base.

6.1 The use any form of mass unsolicited electronic mailings, newsgroup postings, IRC postings, adware, spyware, malware marketing or any other form of "spamming" as a means of promoting Affiliate Web sites or for the purpose of directing or referring users to any web sites owned, operated or controlled by TOTEM. I guess the bold part is what really matters... "has the right" and "in its sole and absolute discretion". It doesn't say "will terminate/freeze/suspend/cancel/whatever the account" regardless of who you are.

You have to read these TOS very carefully I guess. There's an affiliate ID in that link, has he/she been reported to TotemCash? Maybe they just don't know? Benefit of the doubt? The link is still active.

This thread makes me sad, about the industry I work in.

Even worse, the truth is, though, this thread will die when it becomes tolerable to all affiliates... and it will. Just like spam became tolerable.

this thread is never going to die unless GFY deletes it.

the days of affiliates just rolling over and getting fucked and letting things go because they are distracted about some bs drama are over. All the spin, pr, contest threads, and other bull shit posted on this site is not going to cause this thread to go away.

I sure hope not! Seems that spyware is targeting many of those sponsors already. Imagine with higher payouts and contests how many more scums will jump on the spyware bandwagon to cash in at the expense of others? Easy money, no work. Who cares if they're stealing from friends or people they don't know? Greed has no boundary.

Wanna win a contest or make more money the honest way? Choose your sponsors very carefully. You could be losing a lot more than you're making.
