Planet Earth

This series has to be one of the coolest things on TV. They can make anything from a blade of grass to a drop of water look interesting.

This show alone makes it worth having a hi-def TV.

It's a great show with or without HD.

I just got back from an iMax movie and TBH, Planet Earth on the 20" TV in my bedroom was better than the iMax movie.

Ya... my girlfriend put it on the TiVo, and got me hooked.

Seriously the most phenominal thing to hit television in the last decade, I think. Tons of stuff never before caught on film... like the lion pride elephant hunting at night... frikkin great white jumping out of the water to capture his prey... . Makes you appreciate how diverse our world really is.

Guy was saying how he sat in a tent, freezing his ass off for a week, just to get a shot of a mountain lion on the hunt.

It's all over both Discovery and the Science Channel.

As soon as the box set comes out, I'm buying it, to boot.

I watched the one about the plains (grass) last night, and the guy that shot that had to bury himself for a week or something to get his shots because there was no where to hide.

They said there was 2,000 days of shooting to make this series.

From the TiVo schedule I'm looking at right now... seems that on Sundays and Mondays, it's on Discovery...

And Tuesdays and Saturdays it's on the Science Channel.

Then maybe you should get your eyes checked because I see a huge slideshow graphic dead center on the page that has Planet Earth written on it and a banner under that.

No doubt.

Like I said - probably the most phenominal thing to appear on television in the last decade.

I just can't wait for the box set... all the "behind the scenes" extras are gonna have to be off the hook...

"Ya... so I smeared bat dung all over myself, and sat in this corner for 2 weeks just so that I could catch this bear on tape... <footage included>" or some shit.

Yeah that show is great! Its amazing how they can film from so far away, so they don't disturb anything and capture never seen before animal behavior

Planet Earth is by far the best documentary on the planet I've ever seen. My kids have been begging to watch it after every episode. THAT'S how you know it's good

I just preordered the DVD series (it will be out in 2 weeks) which is narrated by David Attenborough. According to the reviews I've read, the David Attenborough version is even better because, unlike Sigourney, David actually knows what he's talking about

HAHA I was going to say the only thing that sucks is the narration. It comes on in 3 minutes. The forest one should profile a bit of Costa Rica so that will be cool. I think the the cave one (starting at 9) will be the best one yet in terms of HD visuals.

In high def it rules. Hopefully it will be released on blueray or hd dvd.

Pretty sure the narration is scripted, so even Dirty Franck could sound intelligent. Be sure to post when you get them. I am Tivo'ing them for the time being.

I remember you making a comment in another thread about science/nature shows and your hi-def tv, so I had a feeling you would be appreciative of the series.

Yes...the hi-def rules.

They are coming out in HD-DVD, however, I for one am not buying either BlueRay OR HD-DVD until there seems to be a clear winner

We watched when it was on the BBC ..BBC/Discovery channel co-productions have been good as of late. They used to team up more with WGBH PBS (boston) but I noticed these days it is more often the BBC and Discovery together.

It is hard to find many in tv that would be more suited than David Attenborough for this sort of show.
