What do you find to be the most interesting period in history

I am sure I am not the only one with an interest in history or that atleast watches the history channel. What period do you find the most interesting? A lot of my friends have a thing for the Victorian era and of course many find the world wars interesting. I have found I have a growing interest in the 1920's and the early 1950's simply with how the world we are in now was being slowly shaped.

I like it all. It isn't so much a time period that I'm particularly interested in, its the happenings that led up to the big events. I find WWII extremely interesting, but I don't find it even half as interesting as what led to WWII throughout the whole world in every individual country.

The ancient Romans are always fun to hear about. It always puzzles me how they had such great technology and then for over 1000 years the advancement of technology just died.

So in summary, I like the politics that created history. :-)

Me too...I like the way society changes and what leads to it. Which I guess is why I got a sociology and politics degree. That sort of thing interests me more than dates and wars, etc. For example, one of the interesting things for me about the world wars is how it moved women into the workforce in the States and the UK.

It would be colonial expansion era. European countries traveling eastward and westward for more land. Thus, discovering those uncharted societies across the globe.

I love WWII. It was the greatest generation - on both sides. It was a time when people people were proud of their country and believed in their leaders even if it resulted in death.

Yup, that is another era that helped to set up the political and social issues that are still showing up today.

No period in particular, I'm mostly interested in "micro history", i.e. the way common people lived and how events affected their lives. I find little people far more interesting than big boys' games like wars.

I would go with the second industrial revolution (1871–1914).
Though as far back as 1830 to 1850 would also be nice.

The Renaissance, The world wars and 911 --- it's not really fascinating but worth remembering coz it struck a primal terror in this generation. Not to mention the controversies behind it.
