Spam costs me more than ZANGO

With all the Zango bashing threads, I figure I would let everyone know that checking my junk box for emails I may have missed, or deleting junk mail from the inbox has taken more of my time during the past 3 years than dealing with spyware.

Whoever says that the two are not in the same league should go and fuck themselves. Spam, in my opinion, is worse than Zango. I cannot opt out of it, I cannot delete it. No matter how much I know about computer security, I cannot filter it. I can filter Zango and others with no problem.

The reason for this post is that last week has become RIDICULOUS spam wise. If most of spam emails were hitting my junk mail before, last week about 20% keeps coming into my inbox. Thats BULLSHIT. I have my client check mail every minute and I get distracted from my daily schedule whenever some crap arrives.

CLIFFNOTES: Spam has overall cost me more time (which is money) than Zango.

Very interesting. How do you filter adware on a surfer's machine? I'd like some of that.

I use a mail server with SpamAssasin and filter the messages that come in with Thunderbird. This set up seems to normally do the job except that I miss an occassional mail or two that gets mislabeled.

What I'm trying to say is that dealing with spam on average costs webmasters more money than they potentially lose in sales from Zango - unless they are very well established and spend little time on their computer or don't care whether they miss emails - which is less than 3% of GFY.

Also, spyware relies on user retardation. If we teach surfers, they will not be installing it. Yet no one can escape spam.

wow, you just don't get it. of course webmasters aren't likely to fall victim to adware/spyware/whatever but obviously surfers do at an alarming amount otherwise zango wouldn't be banking over 50 million per year.

i guarentee zango and the like cost webmasters more money than spam does. sure spam takes a bit of time to sort through ect, but say i lose 4 30 dollar sales to adware per day. thats 120/day, 840/week, 3360/month. i would rather get that money and get 100 or more spams to sort though per day. who does business through email these days anyways? most people use icq, etc.

You are going to be a busy boy... Zango claims 150k new installs a day for them alone.... so apparently there are very many "retarded" surfers out there.

Woudl you care to insult their families now too?

one is stealing your time, and another has been accuse of stealing your surfers, money in the bank is worth more then time, as you would be losing while you slept. so this thread is kind of askew.
