ANONYMOUS POLL: Do you promote Zango?

There's been a big comotion since Will76 first heard about Zango, and even though most of us knew about such programs already it seems that a lot of people had never heard of Adware before.

I was wondering now that most of us know it, and know how they work, if you guys already promote Zango, or any other adware stuff.

This is an anonymous poll, so please tell the truth.

I know how much I hate adware myself........that's a big reason not to promote crap like Zango.

Making money with adware isn't my cup of tea

You are not doing this here, but what I Quoted above made me think of the same answer I would tell those people, If you knew about it why haven't you said something sooner? Why did you guys, who know about this, keep quite and do nothing. These same idiots who did nothing, and said nothing are the same ones who made little comments about me, like i am some type of fool for just finding out about this. The fools are the ones that have known about it and done nothing.

Here are some of my other Famous stupid comments people have made about me regarding Zango and Spyware:

You just finding out about this now and you try to come across as a webmaster who makes money ?

That's what you get for using IE.

What do you think you can do no one cares.

Why are you trying to police the internet, mind your own business.

Don't worry about what other sponsors are doing, it doesn't affect you.

It's only less then 2% of your traffic.

What are you going to do come in riding on your horse and your shit don't stink and try to fix the internet for everyone.

There are more I am sure, that was all I could think of off the top of my head.

The level of intelligence around here is really scary sometimes.

will76 while I agree 100% that Zango fucking sucks monkey dick...

Why didnt you go after the SPONSORS that were GIVING money to Zango instead of targetting your average joe webmaster? Maybe Im missing something pardon but wouldnt it have been wise to expose every single sponsor that PAYS Zango? Or maybe you did that and I didnt see it.

Promoting Zango is like shooting yourself in the foot. For every install a webmaster sends, he loses that surfer forever.

Double sided deal splum - can anyone "go after" the sponsors if joe webmaster keep ignorantly sending traffic to those same programs? There has to be economic effect on the programs to make them change their ways.

Smokey's filter thing is a pretty good idea, as it will take some of the potential popups away and turn the consumer into a better informed surfer, likely to take steps to remove zango from their system.

Making economic change in a pay per click / popup model is as simple as removing the potential clicks.

The average webmaster who is promoting zango cash is worse IMO. They are the ones who are helping to spread this crap and get more computers infected with it. I don't recall going after many individuals, perhaps calling out a few who promote zango cash and asked them if they know what they are doing and if they are still doing it.

The sponsors who are supporting it definetly doesn't help either and many of them have been mentioned in previous threads (search GFY: Zango and you will see most of them). The problem is, it is unlikely we will get ALL sponsors to stop using them. As long as 1 sponsor is using them and buying up the keywords then our traffic is still being stolen. So we can only do the best we can to help damage the ones who choose to continue to use them. Hopefully we can show anyone who uses them it will cost them more in lost sales then in "adware" revenue, from all of the affiliates they are losing by being involved with this crap.
Some sponsors have stopped supporting "adware" and others have made statements that they have never or will ever support it. Some have even said the do accept it and will continue to do so (cough, AFF).

So, the amount of sponsors doing it or not really effects the bottom line of how much zango makes, which is a win for us if we can cause them to lose profits. The less sponsors bidding on their keywords and using them, the less sales they make. The real key is to educate the people who are promoting zango cash (the installs). These are the people who are really hurting us, and in 99% of the cases shooting themselves in foot.

Sadly the majority of the cattle in this 'industry' continue to ignore that anything will bite them in the ass despite it happening over and over again. Slowly businessmen are replacing the cowboys and fools who got lucky at the right time but it is a slow process. This applies to everything from big whales like AFF downwards.

Let's say I was totally new to the Internet porn business, yet had a lot of money to spend and porn to sell.

I arrive at GFY and see some of the threads, for instance ones where affiliates seem to be running scared of an alternative method of driving traffic and anther listing all the reasons affiliates hate sponsors and all the threads offering the earth, plus my sister giving out free BJs to anyone who will join my program.

What do you think would be my reaction, go with Zango or build an affiliate program?

Don't see me going with Zango, but can you see why some do?

I mention this because a very good friend and buyer of our porn for the DVD market is thinking about launching a big site. It will be like a cable TV site, $18 a month, 8 hours of fresh content every day, which will be looped every 8 hours.

He wants to pay 40%, I told him it has to be 50% + to get attention. He told me no. I told him to look here, he asked me how Zango and adware works.

Pretty short sighted business model.... I wouldn't promote them. I mean, if you look ahead, you'd possibly see HUNDREDS of companies pimping different adware shit. Now if that happened, the content and site builders' efforts turn to shit and the adware makers just end up cancelling each other.

At the risk of being chicken little, I think without some huge change (that I can't foresee), this type of adware runs the risk of changing how the affiliate program model works.

Not in the next 90 days or 6 months, which is as far as most in this industry seem to think ahead.

With Zango having this kind of widespread success (and they are extremely successful), there will be several copycats coming along.

I'm not in support of sponsors buying traffic from Zango, or anyone buying traffic from Zango. However, *SOMEONE* will buy all available traffic. That's just the reality of it.

As we move forward, a larger and larger percentage of the surfer population is going to be "infected" with Zango or a Zango-clone.

Today it might be "less than 2%", but what about when it's 10%? 20%? 30%?

This thread deserves a bump....

Quite a lot of people answered the poll.... I think it's safe to say that around 70% of GFY webmasters would never promote them.

And that's not enough IMHO.
