Mount Laurel, NJ (AHN) - A Russian immigrant living in Virginia was beaten to death with a rock on Thursday when he declined to buy some religious CDs offered to him. The incident took place at a highway rest stop in New Jersey when Brian K. White, approached Michail Makerenko,77, as he was standing by his car.

According to reports, White wanted to sell a religious CD to him but Makerenko declined to buy it saying he doesn't need any. This apparently annoyed White, who picked up a rock and struck Makerenko in his head causing fatal blows. White then fled in his white Camaro but was followed by a witness and caught after a 90 mile chase by police.

White has now been charged with murder, eluding police and weapons violations. When police interrogated the 26-year-old he made religious references to God and claimed he was heading to New York, which he believed to be Mecca.

White, who hails from Humble, Texas, has had his bail set at $750,000 and ordered to have a psychiatric exam before he can be released from jail. His next court hearing is scheduled for Friday.
