Very interesting. Unfortunately it's likely to be too much of a read for many here, so they are likely to miss the estimate in the article which puts spyware-related commerce at about 40% of the value of the whole of our industry. That's a statistic which, if remotely accurate, should make people sit up and pay a bit more attention.

It is also heartening to read that many companies, far bigger than any in online porn, have been shamed or scared away from doing business with scumware/spyware operations. You could imply this suggests that those in this industry who have not severed their ties, are as lacking in business sense as they are ethical standards.

I agree with the sentiment, but it isn't even high tech: just bloody silly surfers who are so anxious to grab some freebies, that they either don't read the small print, or don't realize what they are actually getting.

Although come to that, the way interest in this topic is fading and has involved such a relatively small number of webmasters, you have to wonder if the average webmaster is any smarter.
