Does anyone know if Webroot's Window washer really works? I downloaded the free trial and cleaned up all my files, and I wanted to know if it really works so I can get the full version.

I heard that explorer saves every image that you've ever come across surfing and that deleting your cache doesn't fully delete everything, and supposedly Window Washer has a "bleaching" mechanism where they overwrite files so it's unrecoverable. I don't know if it's my imagination but it seems as if my pc faster now that everything's been "washed" ...

all those programs do is delete your IE cache, prune or delete your history.dat file, shit like that.

some ones with their little "bleach" action basically overwrite the sectors on your Hd with different data a few times after removing it originally, so even hardcore HD-extraction shit can't find any of the original data..

dont try this if you are scared of screwing up things in IE

create a file and call it desktop.ini

inside this file put the following line
[.ShellClassInfo]

copy this file to your Temporary Internet Files directory

you should then be able to see all your hidden directories that make up the cache

if u really want to delete the contents of the cache download bcwipe; its a free multipass eraser (just search for it)

u can also set up batch files with bcwipe to delete your cookies and history etc on start-up

You can put a line of code in the sysedit/system.ini file and it will clear the index.dat file on startup. Everything else can be deleted by hand, or so I believe.

If your so paranoid that you need DOD standard wiping after you blowfish your files, you are probably playing with material you shouldnt.

Your never going to go to prison for looking at too much porn.

I use evidence eliminator once and awhile just cause it wipes all sorts of temp shit and other crap I never think about.

My mom uses Windows Washer and she digs it. And if that isnt recommendation enough.

anyone know anything that does on the fly encryption of entire folders and or drives?

It seems like everything I can find doesnt overwrite the file you are encrypting, it just makes an encrypted copy... which is basically useless.

i always clear my cache when my sister comes here and uses my computer because she doesnt know i do porn sites. what i think one of those developers should do (if they havent already) is save the files you have after browsing sites and whenever you want you can hit a button and replace all your history and stuff with non porn sites. i mean if someone looked at ie and everything was cleared would that be a little suspicious.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

It's not that I'm looking at stuff I shouldn't, but as a webmaster I surf around a lot, and sometimes I get caught in sites that are questionable, or sometimes there are even links to questionable sites from sites like GFY ,and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Looks like Window Washer is a good proggie

I use it and it takes care of a lot of garbage, plus you can add other files or folders that you want to delete when run. They also have lots of plug-ins at their site that will delete certain files from various programs.
I use it about once a week and restore about 200 mb of space when I run it.

yeah it seems to work fine for my hubby too.....prolly one of the easiest ones for the lesss technical minded amongst us... our crappy old puter seems to run a lot better since we used window washer

Damn..I just d/l it and gave it a try, saved about 1.2gb of space by cleaning the temp files.
