Easy solution to the Zango problem.
Why not cookie people and not allow the cookie to be overwrtten for a couple minutes?
You can still have last touch, but just make it last touch after a couple minutes. I believe TCG does this. Their cookies can't be overwritten instantly. They last a couple minutes. The only thing this won't help is those programs that don't cookie users. Overall though, if the sponsor is using cookies, then technically zango couldn;t overwrite the cookie, and if the user comes backs, the site could renew the cookie before Zango pops up. This won't stop from people poping competing sites over yours, but it would stop affiliates from popping over you. |

this was suggested early on in the debacle , i spoke with a few sponsors and they are working on putting steps like this into place if not already in place..
An even better idea is to institute a short cookie but only on certain days/times , allowing the programs to spot trends in accounts that fluctuate in direct correlation with the cookie changes.. Thus the cheating accounts can be spotted very easily.. without disrupting current promotional methods but for very short test periods

that wont fix much.
It only fixes the case when someone steals your traffic and sends it to the same sponsor but he can easily send it to another sponsor. |

obviously it wouldnt stop all of it but if you read my post above you could see a method to catch and eliminate these rogue affiliates. They wont be able to tell if they are getting credit most of the time.. but the sponsor would catch them when they switched to alternate cookie method , even if for only a few minutes each day.. these guys are paying per click for the advertising so if they think they are getting paid and the sponsor pulls the plug on them they havent just lost out on a good scam they have paid for it as well. hampering their ability to pay for more scoopage
