Question about RAID SATA ports in motherboard

Hi guys, does anybody knows if the RAID SATA ports can be used to install a hard disk and use it as a normal hard disk. I have the ASUS P4C800 deluxe, and it has 2 sata ports (where I currently have 2 sata hard disks installed) and the mother has 2 RAID sata ports for backup. I just installed a 3rd sata disk in one of those RAID ports, to use it as a normal disk, but it is not recognized in the BIOS setup.

Any advices are really welcomed.

Thanks!

I have an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe mobo in my old computer and I could not get it's sata raid ports to read drives as normal OP drives; only way I could get them to work was to configure a raid for them.

do you remember if you configured them as RAID_0 or RAID_1 ?

also, once you got them running, did they work as a storage device and were you able to store files in them or did they only work as a mirror, in case one hard disk fails.

Thanks.
