Whats a great laptop to buy?

Hey,

Im looking to buy a new laptop, it need to be powerful and reliable.
I want to be able to do all my work on it when I am away from home
which is a lot of the time.

Any recommendations and what sort of price would I be looking at?

15" screen is fine and I guess I need around a gig of ram.

Cheers

Yes. You can also have both running at the same time (Vista on screen #1 and Mac OS X on screen #2 if you have dual screens).

I have a Dell XPS 1710 loaded down nicely and I love it
http://www.dell.com/content/products...=19&l=en&s=dhs

I bought it on Ebay a few months back for $2900 on Ebay fully loaded. The same laptop on Dell's site was over $4000 (at the time I got mine), NOT including the tax. -

Base Unit:
Intel® Core 2™ Duo Processor T7600 (2.33GHz/667MHz FSB/4MB CACHE) (NEW)

Processor:
17 inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WUXGA with BLACK LCDCover

Memory:
2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm

Video Card:
512MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GTX

Hard Drive:
100GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive

Operating System:
Dell Resource CD with Application Backup, w/Tools

NIC:
Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Network Card and Modem

CD-ROM or DVD-ROM Drive:
Featured Upgd-8XCD/DVD Burner(DVD+/-RW)w/dble-layer DVD+R write capability

CD-ROM or DVD-ROM Drive:
Roxio Creator Basic/MyDVD Basic

Sound Card:
Integrated Creative Audigy Audio

Processor Cable:
Dell Truemobile 350 Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR!

Dell Draft N- Wireless Card (NEW)

Feature
80 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

Additional- 130 Watt Adapter!

2-AC ADAPTERS 130 Watt

DELL XPS BACKPACK CARRYING CASE!

Service:
3 Year NEXT BUSINESS DAY COMPLETE CARE WARRANTY WITH ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE PROTECTION!

I guess that Ebay can scare people due to the amount of money being dished out, but sometimes the savings are VERY tempting. The seller I bought from had 1100 (99.7%) feedback, so I trusted him.

Mines a year old and I think my model now would be an Asus z70va, or something, which hase a different screen that some like and some don't. Asus also has a 17" unit out which looks pretty tasty, though pricey. I'm not a Mac fan, and was hesitant about a "generic", but after buying one I'm sold on customizing them via online sellers.

I dont really want a big screen as I travel a bit and it will end up being
a pain in the ass.
My screen at the moment is 14.1 which is plenty big enough.
