I so fucking hate that shit. People don't realize how often they lose my interest (and traffic) because of this bs.

Usually when i sign up for a new program it's because something they offer interests me at that point. And if it does i want to get going right away. I could have links up within 2 mins.

But no, they prefer to let me wait anywhere from 1 hour to 3 days to do what? Approve me? I fill in my name and address. Whats there to approve?

I'm pretty sure that from the last 10 programs who did this at least 5 of them i never sent a hit because the next day i was like fuck it. I couldve worked on your stuff yesterday and now i dont feel like it or most likely i looked for another sponsor right away that offered something similar and signed up with them.

Same as back in the day when i bought shitloads of content. Content providers with login systems have no clue how much money they lost just from me because they let you wait while you have your cc in your hand to spend shitloads on content.

Cliffnotes: When i like your stuff i don't want to wait to send you traffic. If you let me wait i'll send my traffic somewhere else.

Agreed... especially when it comes to TGP owners and stuff like that where you put your links up and the traffic flows right away.

I think invite only is good.

Stops the the surfers and people that dont know what they are doing accessing your program.

But i see your point to, if they are going to make it invite only they should be on hand to approve accounts asap.

They compare the name/address you fill in with the whois info of the sample url you provide, and quite possibly the whois info of the domain of the email address you use to register. Also they check to see if your site is in english language and has legal content. I guess the main reason for doing this is to make sure you're not a surfer trying to get all the fhg's and free content of the sponsor.

But I do agree, it's annoying.

It's for the sponsors own protection. You clearly don't know how much fraud and bullshit programs have to put up with.

If/when you run a program or something involving cards, affiliates, etc. you'll understand it.

Companies that don't take steps to protect their business by letting anyone sign up without any due diligence are the ones I'd be worried about.

Then there are the ones that say you'll be notified once you're approved, and inevitably they don't work weekends (wtf, this a 24x7 business...at least check once or twice on the weekend).

To top that off, they DON'T email you, yet you can log into your account some days later if you happen to check.

We manually approve all new affiliate applications. All are generally within a few hours of the application, and if we are contacted via icq it is instant.

Here's an example:

Full name:
ass hooole

Address:
sg 15 jj
fgd
safd, vd
Afghanistan

company:
adsds

email:
[email protected]

Simple comparison of information from the application can help to screen out unncessary problems and protect all real affiliates of the program. But with any screening process it should be fast. Jace made a good point that if it takes too long it is often forgotten or lowered in importance.

what of bunch of crap
so what if you get some fake signups ? can't you just remove those when you
review the new accounts ?
I usually get an idea and I spend the next two three hours working on that stuff
like mad, if my account is not approved till I'm done with the project good luck
getting any hits from me after that because I'm not going back and modify my
sites to add yours.
Oh well, plenty of sponsors with instant activation so wth.

Yeah, it's definitely fucking annoying.

I've only ever waited for 1 or 2 programs to approve me. The smaller programs that do it are really only shooting themselves inthe foot.

They could easily check out new users when they're next online as darksoul suggested...

I can understand this, but also note that programs will have different business plans based on their content type. If I owned a program with non exclusive content, the doors to the program would be wide open. Protection of the content or saturation/premium level would not be important at all.

Same for me. I don't waiste time to signup for them. Having a preview section is not very hard to make.

We had a discussion regarding this here, a few years ago. They don't seem to understand though. Too bad for them.

Yeah and their main excuse was you could be a surfer using my bw. I guess losing 5 bucks a day in bw to a lost surfer is more important than having a few webmasters spending 500 dollars.

tons of sales offcourse

thats why weve decided to keep webmaster joins instantly and zip content at 50 zips or so, like a 1000 pics. Real webmasters get members access anyhow.

But I know programs that have tons of ZIPs and keep on updating on them every week. Enough to fill a surfer board. So - partially - allowing webmaster is the best option then imho.

once again, it has more to do with fraud protection than protecting bandwidth. when you start getting hit by affiliate fraud on a regular basis you'll understand hte importance of controling whose allowed to push your sites.

I'd imagine there could be a happy medium reached in this. Why not just make new webmasters signup as pending and allow them access to the affiliate side. When you check the next day, if they don't meet your requirements or you feel are frauds, you cancel them. Honestly, how much damage can they do in one day?

that's pretty much exactly what I do. I don't really want my program affiliated with a site that's going to make my sites look bad.

if I have to be approved then you really dont want my traffic in the 1st place.

The reason I am lookin at your products is something has dawned on me, and I can not send the new idea to anywhere but you.

And you want me to wait around for you to approve me?

Not a good move honestly.

I will find something in the next 20 seconds instead of waiting the 1-3 days it takes for you to aprove.

You just lost a webmaster.

I think I would deal with the people from afganistain trying to get FHG in hopes of scoring a new productive webmaster.

Good thread frank.

Lion Dollars is one of the programs that "approve" accounts.
I did sign up for them, but I never heard from them after that. I did get an e-mail from them with the following info:
"Thank you for joining Lion Dollars, the KING in MAKING WEBMASTERS MONEY!
Please allow 24 hours for our team to approve your account,
In the meantime please visit your account details page "

That was on october 13th. Was never approved. Funny enough, I was approved for their affiliate newsletter and haven't been able to remove myself from that..

Lion Dollars and anyone who can't take the time to go over applications have lost my traffic for good..

I just checked.. I am now able to log in to their affiliate program, so I must have been approved sometime during the last couple of weeks. Still haven't gotten an e-mail telling me that I was approved. So I only had to wait 2½ months The won't even be getting one hit from any of my sites.

i just had this conversation a few weeks ago. I have signed up to topbucks 14 times over the last 3 years because of waiting for approval
